Investigators probing the alleged beating death of a Cambodian man at the hands of a US national in Preah Sihanouk province on December 20 sent evidence to the provincial court on Friday.

Nouv Savuth, chief of Preah Sihanouk’s Penalty Office, said yesterday that photos of 29-year-old Neang Sarin’s corpse, a death certificate and documentation from Kossamak Hospital in Phnom Penh were given to court officials. US national Jason Richard Barnett, 34, is accused of beating Sarin, who died three days later.

“[barnett] stood on my brother and kicked and badly hit him,” said Khat Sary, Sarin’s sister, who provided police with some of the evidence. “There was a blood clot in the brain, so doctors could not help him.”

The same day as the alleged fatal beating, police received a complaint that Sarin sexually assaulted Barnett’s 10-year-old daughter.

Provincial deputy prosecutor Huoth Vichet yesterday said he was in Phnom Penh and had not yet received the evidence.
