BANGKOK: -- Four Crime Suppression Division (CSD) police officers believed to be allegedly involved in the illegal Abubakar bin Sulaiman football gambling racket were released on a Bt600,000 bail guarantee yesterday after the Criminal Court decided that they would not flee.

Four Crime Suppression Division (CSD) police officers believed to be allegedly involved in the illegal Abubakar bin Sulaiman football gambling racket were released on a Bt600,000 bail guarantee yesterday after the Criminal Court decided that they would not flee.

The four officers, who turned themselves in are: Pol Lt-Colonel Watthana Phol-ngarndee; Pol Major Aphisit Mekprayoon; Pol Captains Nithiphat Kangruambutr; and Sakrin Kesornthian.

Four other officers also allegedly involved in the racket and on the run are Pol Colonels Watcharaphol Thongluan and Athip Thaennil, Lt-Colonel Phiphat Chawengraj and Major Jakkraphan Leelananthawong. A civilian, identified as Withoon Trakarnphruek, also faces an arrest warrant for his alleged role in the illicit operation.

The suspects either served earlier or were working under former Central Investigation Bureau commissioner Pol Lt-General Pongpat Chayaphan. The first four were with the powerful CSD, while the other four served in other divisions under CIB.

According to arraignment documents, the four CSD officers had demanded bribes from an Indian businessman who was arrested in a 2009 raid led by Pongpat. They wanted property developer Karan Singh Thakral pay them in exchange for taking his name out of a list of people whose assts were to be seized. A large sum of money, believed to be close to Bt150 million, had been sent to Pongpat and former deputy CIB chief Pol Maj-General Kowit Wongrungroj in relation to this case.

Separately, CIB deputy commissioner Pol Maj-General Thitiraj Nongharnphithak has been promoted to top CIB post to replace Pongpat, in a transfer order released last Friday. The new position will go into effect on January 15.

after the Criminal Court decided that they would not flee.

Using google's new 'Thai double-speak to English' translator app, this is what was displayed when the above phrase was entered into it:

"The accused had paid authorities sufficient tea money that further criminal charges would not be pursued."

after the Criminal Court decided that they would not flee.

Thainess right there!

It's not like people regularly flee justice in Thainessland.

Four Crime Suppression Division (CSD) police officers were released on a Bt600,000 bail guarantee yesterday after the Criminal Court decided that they would not flee.

600,000 baht which they paid without so much as twitching an eye lid.

As for the Criminal Court deciding they would not flee,...ahem, well since the court decided, it must be so, then.

600.000 bail!!

Probably paid with profits from their illegal business.

Meanwhile on Koh Tao.........................................coffee1.gif

It does not say who actually paid the bail, was it guaranteed

as they are police officers,(not been found guilty, and not dismissed yet),

if so that would be strange.

This is encouraging, if more police are are willing to change sides then I hope that they can be allowed to change their ways. They followed corrupt leaders they should now be given the chance to become

incorruptible leaders.

Following a corrupted leader is not exoneration nor mitigation. After they do the appropriate 20 years, then they can become incorruptible leaders. They will have ample time to study that art and perhaps come to understand the impact of their betrayal of the society that supported and depended on them... if they are guilty, of course.

Like most things Thai, we will never know the back story.

"Back story? There is no back story."

Ok. No problem.

A number of witnesses in the football gambling racket case are said to suffering from attacks of ''selective amnesia'' that has resulted in certain facts not being totally recalled.

Medical experts state that those affected seem to have had contact with the carrier(s) of the virus who had been recently incarcerated in somewhat less than hygienic conditions in the local prison system due to the awaiting of bail to be arranged.

A number of inmates in the local prison system are chronic sufferers of selective amnesia which can be transmitted to others in many different ways.

It is believed that money is one of the greatest infection carriers followed by unhygienic firearms that have not been correctly sterilized.

So not going to flee Better deflea them first bet they beat feet to the border as we read article.
