Anyone know why the beach road was closed yesterday? Seems strange to close the road on a day when many would be going to the beach.

Royal family member in the area perhaps? Police stopping traffic all the time this week. People are ordered to shut down their bike engine, get off the bike and stand next to it. When driving a car they leave you alone. No need to shut down your engine or stand next to the car.

This morning it was open, made a nice dive at Kata Beach housereef with taking the wind into account a surprisingly good visibility.

Few years ago I missed a flight as they closed most of the Pattaya to Bkk highway so she could drive herself down to Pattaya.

You make a big mistake there Hans. People ARE a danger to them. Imagine they drove private cars with everyone else they TOO would be at the mercy of truck drivers in poorly (read: not) maintained heavily overloaded vehicles high on yaa baa and the mini-bus Michael Schumacher wannabe's and 11-year olds driving motorbikes on the wrong side of the road etc. etc.
