Major dental work for traveler ... where to get good estimates by email?

A friend is considering a trip here for some major dental work, root canals, oral surgery, etc. If he can get the details from a U.S. dentist how can he get an accurate estimate of the cost of the work here so he can decide whether it's worth the trip for the work?

Any specific leads/places in Pattaya to send the info based on personal experience for an estimate appreciated.

Yes I too can guess to a hospital dental department, but looking for something more specific based on experience.

I suspect it would be difficult to get any form of accurate cost without being examined by a professional!

Sure, some local dentists have price lists for procedures. But they usually don't let you see it let alone copy from it! Although if you ask, they usually quote prices from it.

At a standard dental clinic root canal is between Bt1,500 to Bt5,000 depending on the tooth (and number of nerves), standard non semi-precious crowns are about Bt5,500. Stainless steel pins about Bt1,200. Fancier the clinic, the higher the prices

Make sure the person does his due diligence, as Thai dentists often are not up to the standards of the west. But you are cognizant of that..

One of my Thai relatives has a dental business in Hat Yai. I believe he is top shelf in terms of Thailand - not because I know himwai2.gif . Not sure your friend would want to go that far though..I could provide the name of the clinic if you wish, and he could check himself.

When the dentist comes to Phuket, about a dozen relatives come out of the woodwork... for free dental work... facepalm.gif

My wife doesn't get any work done by him, because of the face thing..

they think I'm rich...not..tongue.png

You can contact Thantakit Dental. They can provide you with estimates and you could also check their pricing on their website. They are located in Bangkok but at least you'd get an idea of the costs. Have used them before and had a positive experience overall. They are also very popular in the field of dental tourism and dental holidays so I think they can assist you well.

I think it is granted that it's going to be substantially cheaper in LOS.

Oral surgery- need a specialist for that, not some clinic. Bangkok hospital Pattaya or Grace in Chiang Mai.

Depends on what needs done of course.

If I needed oral surgery I'd go to Bumrungrad in Bkk. However, that wouldn't be cheap.

I have used Dr. Sunthorn at Bangkok Pattaya hospital for 10+ years, major work including implants and veneers.

Benefit there is they have around 20 dentists/oral surgeons on staff and can give you a good survey and quote before beginning work. As i recall, my oral surgeon was educated in Australia.

Looking at your avatar, I am not sure if anybody should take your advice in this matter.
