British nationality / citizenship for half-Brit-Thai child

I am British (born in Britain with British passport), married to Thai husband and we are expecting our first child.

The Thai birth certificate process seems straightforward. I am now wondering what I need to do, in order for my child to have British citizenship and British nationality. Stupid question - but is there a difference between being a British National and being a British citizen?

There are a few posts on applying for a British passport, so I think I'm ok with that. From what I understand, registering the birth with British embassy/consulate is not essential but maybe a 'nice to have'. Is there anything else I need to do, in order to give my child all the rights it is entitled to, as a child of a British mother?

Also, I read somewhere that you have to be careful about the spelling when making the child's birth certificate, bcos it could cause problems in the future. Could somebody explain again why that is?

Will my name be on the child's Thai certificate? I guess they have to use the transliteration of my English name, using Thai letters. They could use what is on my marriage cert? I have a hyphen in my surname, which isn't on my marriage cert. Hope that doesn't cause probs? Thanks

I am sure others will be along but Thai is Thai. British have to register the birth at the commission. Passports for each country can be issued.

Spelling is everything bcos people should know how.

Travel documents require it.

Mis spelt or badly entered details on a Thai birth cert should be corrected immediately as they will lead to probs establishing eligibility to UK passports if left unchecked.
