Are Older Men in Thailand Trading Love for Financial Ruin
Well, my wife paid off the house before we married. We live in a condo (I prefer condo life for convenience and security) and we rent because the drive to her work is relatively quick. I wanted to buy a condo many, many times in Bangkok because I do prefer to own for many reasons, including furnishing the place to my comfort and not having to sign annual rental agreements. However, every single time I look at the prices, I just can't justify buying it ( and I tried many, many times to justify it). The rent is just so incredibly cheap and landlords do actually take care of any issues you have with the unit. So we keep renting and renting. Now, if I was absolutely sure we would stay in Thailand until we die, then maybe I would buy. -

Air tickets, revisited: Buying a ticket out of Thailand to the US and paying with my foreign CC may or may not be a remittance, this has been discussed extensively, at least 3 times. So please don't start this discussion again. What if someone else, living abroad, pays with their foreign CC? I wouldn't even have to reimburse them, they owe me money. IIRC, this also has been discussed a long time ago, and the answer was, - in the UK, HMRS would consider this a remittance - in Thailand, probably too - this would effectively mean all tickets out of Thailand are taxed, and someone recommended to fly to a neighboring country first, and buying the long-haul ticket there Do I remember correctly? -

I really like Thai food. The culture is not that huge of an adjustment if one has had to adjust to different experiences in life. As far as Thai people, of all the people who are here from other countries I would rather be around Thais then many of them. Companionship and affordability are huge. Actually, I do not think the weather or air here are that great several western countries are much better in that area. -
