PHUKET -- The body of an unidentified murder victim washed up last night (January 11) among mangroves in front of a fishing community in Mai Khao.

The local man who found the body said he was out fishing when he noticed something odd among the mangroves and shone his flashlight on it. “I freaked out when I saw it was a body, and called the police,” he said.

Investigators led by Pol Maj Santi Prakorbkarn of Tha Chat Chai police station examined the body of the man, whom they estiamted to be between 25 and 30 years old, about 160cm tall and wearing a black T-shirt and shorts.

They found that he had been stabbed twice, in the chest and neck. There was no ID on the body.

They theorised that he might have been a crew member from a fishing boat based in Phuket or Phang Nga and had floated ashore after being murdered and thrown overboard. They estimated that he had been dead about 24 hours.

The body was taken to Thalang Hospital and police in Takua Tung have been notified in case there have been reports there of anyone going missing recently.

This could be a double bonus.

Burmese slave fisherman murder blamed on Burmese immigrant labourer... Whist working on land.

I doubt that any Thai person could do this, given the amount of Thainess floating around.

It will be interesting to see this one play out.

Seems to be a lot of stabbings in London as well these days but unlike their Thai colleagues the British police seem to actually arrest the people committing the crimes, not a Burmese scapegoat in sight.

I would not be surprised if it turns out to be another poor slave. If so, you can expect to hear little if nothing more about it. I just wonder how many never wash up on shore??

Only deceased for approximately 24 hours, and despite being in the water, taking his fingerprints should not be a problem.

Hopefully, for his family's sake, his prints might match some records, somewhere.
