webfact
Police Spokesman: Zigzag markings are common in EuropeBANGKOK, 12 January 2015 (NNT) - Pol Lt Gen Prawut Thawornsiri, spokesman for the Royal Thai Police, has explained that zigzag road markings ahead of pedestrian crossings which have been recently introduced for trial use to roads around Bangkok are one of the traffic signs commonly used in European countries especially around community zones to further road safety. The zigzag lines warn motorists and car drivers to slow down their vehicle’s speed ahead of zebra crossings or coming barriers. After being introduced to Asoke Montri Road for trial use, the Royal Thai Police plans to extend the use of the sign to the front of schools and other educational institutes.Pol Lt Gen Prawut said he also called a meeting of all related police units today to make sure traffic management plans are being implemented on the same track. Under the plan, policemen will help expedite the flow of traffic during rush hours. Numerous small lanes, sub-roads, unnecessary intersections and U-turn are closed to allow traffic on the main roads flowing as smooth as possible. He revealed that the plan has been implemented on a trial basis on Sukhumvit Road, Rama 2 Road, Rama 9 Road and Bangna Road and showed a satisfactory result.-- NNT 2015-01-

Popular Post simonuk
Can't see many Thai drivers taking a blind bit of notice. They park where they want especially if it's more convenient. Until there is a police force in Thailand and a real driving education and testing system nothing will change.

webfact
Zig-zag lines to confuse drivers into not killing pedestriansBy Coconuts BangkokPhotos: AkaravutTV9BANGKOK: -- Next time the roadway seems to go all wavy, it might not be your criminal drunkenness to blame. To warn motorists to slow down before pedestrian crossings and hopefully reduce the numbers of road-crossers killed on their feet, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will paint intersections with wild zig-zag lines as a new traffic-calming measure.Following numerous accidents, 15-meter-long, zig-zag lines will be painted before problem crosswalks, Suthon Anakul, Director of Traffic Engineering Office, said Saturday.Suthon explained that the zig-zag lines would trick motorists to think the roads are narrower, causing them to slow down. Popular Post ratcatcher
Zigzag markings are common in Europe. So is stopping for pedestrians at a zebra crossing. Here many drivers speed up. Even at the most famous zebra crossing in the world........
Popular Post trainman34014
You can paint any shape lines on the roads in all the colours of the rainbow and you won't get a response from Thai drivers. ''ME'' is all that matters to them.

Popular Post Bocking
In Europe, these Zig Zag lines have meaning. Drivers and Pedestrians understand that meaning and generally obey the rules. If not, the Police will prosecute and the offenders will receive meaningful penalties. Here in Thailand, well, they're just Zig Zag lines
Loles
If you don't use concrete barricades you can't protect the pedestrians against motorists. Zig-Zag lines. Ehhhh

dean008
In the event of a serious accident, impound the vehicles and pass a law to leave the cars on the side of the road as a warning to other motorists. Failing that, an IQ test for all drivers.. The bigger the engine the harder the test.

willyumiii
The Thai police may not be aware, but in the 1960s and 70s Zig Zag markings were seen a lot in California. It usually meant you were about to get really stoned!

Popular Post Tatsujin
Wow, another waste of paint and money. Educate the drivers what they actually are meant to do, and then enforce the laws, otherwise all the paint in the world won't make a blind bit of difference. You might want to put some more lights up on all roadsides at well for night time driving, it's getting really difficult to spot the pedestrians and motorbikes that are coming towards me in the middle of my lane without lights nowadays.

Popular Post jamesbrock
Where is the "Thainess"? Combined with the Thainess of taking two of the three eastbound lanes side of Sukhumvit for westbound traffic, all the time; the Thainess of ten minute, dumb, traffic light sequences; the Thainess was here: Numerous small lanes, sub-roads, unnecessary intersections and U-turn are closed to allow traffic on the main roads flowing as smooth as possible. Until this country creates a properly functioning police force, nothing will change on the roads. No number of zigzag lines will make drivers—who, for generations, have done absolutely anything they want with impunity—obey the road rules. Obviously the creation of a properly functioning police force would be contingent on a complete overhaul of almost every aspect of Thai society, so it will never happen.

Thian
Yes and driving like a total selfish idiot is also common in Europe......untill the police sees it....then you pay them a bribe which is common in Europe Soi dogs are also common in Europe, and motorists who buy a driverslicense for 12 euro Making your own traffic rules is also very common in Europe and of course bigger cars get special treatment because they must be rich Policemen also can speak english in Europe by the way or they wouldn't be policemen. So funny, since when can we compare a 5 star continent with Thailand?
