Five border towns to be developed as special economic zones

TAK, 14 January 2014 (NNT) - The Department of Public Works and Town and Country Planning has speeded up the planning and development of Mae Sot as a special economic zone.

According to Mr Pichai Uthaichate, DPT director for country and regional planning, the project aims to develop comprehensive land use planning, city and infrastructure development in Tak's Mae Sot district, to prepare the city for the establishment of special economic zone, as approved by the cabinet earlier.

Besides Mae Sot in Tak, the department will also do the city planning for other border towns including Sadao in the southern province of Songkhla, Muang district in the northeastern province of Mudahan, Aranyaprathet in the eastern province of Sakaeo and Khlong Yai in Trat.

He said the planning phase for those cities should be completed within three to five months. After that hearings will be held in each city to gather opinions of local residents before any physical works can be started.

It's sort of an economic School for the Intellectually Challenged...discounts for our family and favorites, and higher prices for strangers and enemies...kind of an Avarice Alley where the wealthy get wealthier and the poor get poorer.

Here'es the wiki link (for once almost on target) : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_economic_zone

I see very little in the wiki post that is negative, but then you never see anything positive.

If you are unaware about a Special Economic Zone, try to read this report with out dozing asleep: Facts, Roles, and Opportunities of Investment by P. Pakdeenurit, N. Suthikarnnarunai Member, IAENG, and W. Rattanawonghttp. It is a lot of Mumbo Jumbo but it explains all the benefits regarding them

What is a special economic zone ?

Put simply it's a geographic area, such as a town, province or portion thereof, with special economic privileges and incentives meant to improve the area by encouraging trade. Costa Rica, for example, doesn't pay Tariffs when exporting to Miami.
