Happy And Free Teacher's Day This Friday For Windmill Fighters...

Sawasdee khrap,

I just found out through a student that I'll have a free day this Friday ( Teacher's Day). Was confirmed by our grade six English teacher, .

All the Thai colleagues have attend a superficial meeting, plus a dinner together in the evening.

I'm so sad that they didn't invite me to show up and join their usually very boring meetings.

Wish all Windmill fighters on this forum a very nice and long weekend. -thumbsup.gif

Hello lostinisaan

Me and the other foreign teacher must go to the meeting with all our Thai teachers this Friday morning

where all the teachers will gather from all around the region BUT only the Thai teachers are going to a

dinner party, which we foreign teachers are not invited to.

We had a Christmas Party and celebrated Children's Day at our school, when we served free food and drink

to our students but the Thai teachers put the leftover into plastic bags, distributed them only to themselves

and took them back home. hahaha...

That's the way it is here in Thailand... You're not alone... Thailand amazes you!

Sorry to hear that. Be happy that you don't have to go to the dinner party. Will never forget the shitty

( excuse my language) New Year's Party at our school.

Arrai na ? You had to serve food and drinks to your students? They usually have a company that does all service.

Amazing Thailand, indeed. Hope you enjoy the meeting with all the other teechaaas.

Since teacher day usually involves students making respect to the teachers. Sounds like the foreigners at your school are not considered real teachers so your not wanted at the ceremony.

That's 'wai kruu' what you're talking about.

Likewise, here. A morning with a long (2 hour +) boring ceremony, where absolutely nobody listens and most teachers just fiddle around with their smartphones or fall asleep. Afterwards, we're all obliged to sit through lunch (which we have to pay for) - and then there will be "activities". which only a few teachers are really interested in - the rest prefer to huddle in groups and chat, fiddle with smartphones or doze - until it's time to thankfully go home. Then everybody suddenly wakes up, smiles - and says what a good day it has been.....rolleyes.gif

Same procedure as last year.......blink.png

Our teachers serve food to the kids every day wearing dinner lady clothes.

Just found out, tomorrow no classes, just teachers at the school.

At least we had a great New Year party. Great food. Free booze (as much as one can drink...and take home smile.png). And even free prizes for answering questions correctly in a showdown for entertainment after the meal (little bags of gold from China town and cash prizes too)

We've a holiday but if we want to go to join the activities, we're welcome. We've been invited for the dinner. School pays for it.

Good to hear that you can have a decent dinner. I could take my wife and "join in", but I do prefer to not see them for three days.

These events are a good tool for "new teachers" to socialize with their Thai colleagues. When you eat, dance, sing with them Karaoke, they might understand that we didn't swim over many oceans to work in this country.

I experienced a lot of good parties, there's one where they had to carry out the Disk-jockey, because he always fell down, pretty much close to an alcohol poisoning.

And a very good opportunity to get to know each other. I truly reckon to go there ,when you'd just started teaching in Thailand.

Once this month is over, the school year seems to end so fast,at's unbelievable. Happy Windmill Fighting, Mr. Aldenai. Koop Dee Kaas en Brodje.-coffee1.gif

Hello Everyone!

Happy Teachers' day!

Hello lostinisaan!

We have a cafeteria in our school so the cooks serve the kids food and drink for lunch every day.

They're employed by our school and not from a catering company.

Hello scooterboy & ChrisB87!

Yes, one of our Thai teachers told me that there are some (NOT all) students coming to the ceremony on Teachers' Day to show respect and

even REVERENCE for the teachers and then the teachers compete in a volleyball tournament. I still haven't even been informed of anything

about what's going on after that.

The other foreign teacher for our school actually moved here from another school in a nearby small town a half year ago. He told me he was invited

to a dinner last year where all the teachers enjoyed free food and drink (beer & whisky, etc), singing songs in Karaoke and even did a lottery and

some teachers won a fridge, a washing machine or a TV set!

You're talking about "Wai Kru", where they have to show you respect. No students come to school tomorrow, the teachers will meet somewhere at a bigger meeting hall and all in all it's a very boring event.

No need to be there, if you don't understand Thai. And if you do even more reason not to go to this event.

How do you "differentiate" between a "real teacher" and a "fake teacher?" Just wondering why so many kiddies call me daddy......facepalm.gif

I always want to, but they are so tricky that they take it off, without even realizing it. But none of these kids seem to have my sense of humor, so they can't be mine.

You seem to be very CASUAL,as a biker. Does that include the use of rubbers as well? Just curious if you'd been in Sisaket area often.

Seems the kids only call me daddy, because "I'm so hansum?."

Just wondering where all the moms are, as most of them get picked up by grandpa, grand mom, or aunties.

I hope that the moms of my kids don't have to play the Ping Pong Ball game somewhere at the east coast to pay the school bill. -w00t.giffacepalm.gifthumbsup.gif
