BANGKOK — The Thai court known for ousting a string of democratically elected political parties is now offering a course titled "Good Governance For Democracy."

The program is open to members of the state and private sector who want to improve their "conscience and behaviour," said the chairman of the Constitutional Court, whose judges will be teaching the class.

"We want them to use the knowledge from the course to apply to their organizations, the public, and national reform process," the chairman, Nurak Mapraneet, said during the opening class yesterday.

The Constitutional Court is known for its numerous rulings against political parties and governments allied to former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, the de facto leader of the Redshirt movement.

Could it be worse than that offered in the red shirt democracy schools that suddenly sprung up in northern parts during 2010?

6 of 1. half dozen of the other.

Same same but different.

Though one did have a little more freedoms than the other.

You are right of course the children in the red areas had no choice but to attend the red schools and everyone had to listen to the red propaganda spewed out over the loudspeakers every day.

No freedom of thought or speech as anyone speaking out against the red doctrine would have been severely dealt to.

Heck they even prevented politicians from other parties from campaigning in those areas, killing one of the campaigners to make their point.

It could be argued that attendance at the red 'democracy schools' was pretty much compulsory, with naming and shaming the penalty for non attendance.

It would be interesting to compare the materials of the red democracy schools (hate messages repeated again and again including doctored tapes) with the course materials to be used in the court lessons, as yet unseen.

The Constitutional Court has released a statement asking the media to stop referring to it by its acronym, which also spells the word "joke" in Thai.

Free speech is the cornerstone of a democratic society...

Call in a respected outside consultant to teach the "Democracy Course"...

Don't make a "joke" of Thai Democracy...

Gen. Prayut should invite all the ambassadors to Thailand to attend this course so they can better understand Thai democracy. I am sure it will dispel any misconceptions they may have about the Junta's roadmap to democracy.

Thai culture is not conducive to democracy, with the act of kreng jai and not questioning your superior they are taught from very young to accept. That is not the root of democracy.

Like in most Asian Confucian countries like China, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan etc and they have roots steeped in democracy. Poor excuse for denying democracy.
