Non-OA visa: what about the marriage certificate?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

Soon we will re-enter Thailand with a single entry Non-O visa. For myself it's based on me being 50 years old, my (Dutch) wife will have a Non-O dependent visa. Once back in Thailand, we will 'convert' this visa for a Non-OA (or 1 year extension of stay, based on retirement). We are well aware of the financial obligations involved. I do have however a question about the marriage certificate. For the 1 year extension, we need to show Immigration our (Dutch) marriage certificate. We do of course have a recent certificate (stated also in English), but I have heard that the certificate needs to be 'certified'.

Can anyone please explain to me what that means? Is it enough to ask the Thai embassy or consulate to put a stamp on it, or do we need to arrange something more sophisticated?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You will be applying for an extension of stay based upon retirement there is no conversion needed. OA visas are only issued at an embassy.

If a marriage certificate is not in English it must be translated to Thai and the translation certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Some immigration offices will also want the marriage certificate certified by the Dutch embassy to apply for a dependent extension of stay application.

One more question to ubonjoe: by Dutch embassy I presume you mean the Dutch embassy in Bangkok?

Yes the Dutch embassy in Bangkok.
