Arab town in Bangkok

BANGKOK: -- Thai-based Rajthanee Realty, two Saudi investors and a UAE sheikh are building a $160m "Arab Town" in Bangkok, according to the Bangkok Post. The 2m sqft development will include a hotel, residential and office buildings, general amenities and a mosque.

Rajthanee chairman Dr Boon Vanasin says more Middle Easterners are moving to Asia, particularly Malaysia, because they felt less welcome in Europe and America due to issues related to terrorism.

...and it is much easier to leave their families in Arab Town and head out to Soi Cowboy or down to Pattaya then it is to fly the family over and stick em' in a hotel whilist they boogie over to the nightlife.

...kinda' like Little Beirut, maybe? Nobody else sees a problem here?

Well at least they will all be in one place...easier to keep an eye on for round-up

Cordially,

Hunter

Wow, I wasn't going there but...maybe it will be like Dubai, a decent place...and probably not.

The Thais wont accept the overly sensitive politically correct crap we put up with however when we have mullahs on the streets preaching destruction of the country and trying to bend everything to suit them.

I hope that you are right, but the Thais don't seem to be doing much down south, if you know what I mean. How long will it take for Arab town and what is happening in Southern Thailand to be inter linked?

Great.......they'll soon use Bangkok as their new launch pad to plan terrorist plots within S.E. Asia

As it is, you can already find them loitering with intent in Soi 5 & 7 Sukhumvit.

But then again, better to have them in one place so that the Thai authorities can monitor effectively.........

here starts the problems

build a seperate area for arabs only, where they bacome secular, and no true intergration takes place, the native thai become upset as this no doubt will become a no go area or at least the thais will not be welcome ] in thier own contry at that ]

a mosque, well they had better hope that a moderatw immam is at the helm and it does not becomea breeding ground for dissalusioned young muslims.

i have no problem with multi culturism but the people whom immigrat have to intergrate into and accept the culture to which they want to move to.

if the thai's allow this then maybe it should be modelled on a china town or little italy scenario.

as these are proven methods of intergration through out the world. and bring colour and vibrance to most cities.

i wish them well and hope they do thier homework by looking to all countries through out the world to see if this will work.

whoops, sorry about that double post. That is one of the main problems: the teachings at the mosques. Will they have their own schools seperate from the other international schools? I'm waiting for someone to comeon here and badger us for being insensitive and insulting. I lived in the Middle-East for about 14 mos. It is a different world.

A huge increase in visitors from the ME for medical care is one reason you see so many nowdays.

In year 2000, Bumrungrad saw appx. 5000 ME patients.

After 9-11, they stopped going to the US for medical.

Last year, Bumrungrad saw 70,000 ME patients.

Now, they bought the Hospital my doctor told me.

IMHO about as needed as the clap! But then the money is the factor not personal decision.

Less welcome in Europe?? Maybe, but theres definately not going to be a mass exodus from Europe to Thailand.

And Opothai I totally agree with your sentiments, I fear Thailand may yet suffer the blight of excess Multi-culturalism that Plagues England.

Mind you Bhuddism and Islam may go together as one is Benign and other a different matter entirely!

Can't see why people are getting so cross. We lived in the ME for three years andhad no problem at all. Most muslims are moderate and tolerant, itis the mental few that give them a bad name. Same as everyone.

I don't see a problem. All those young men will be enchanted and find themselves busy at Nana etc. and everyone will end up a lot happier.

i have nothing against muslims having lived in the ME myself, great people who are let down by the minority same as us all.

Great idea maybe i can get a good schwarma there..

(apologies if spelt wrong!)

What a lot of prejudiced rubbish. How many of you self-righteous posters have tried to "fit in" in Thailand by converting to Buddhism or learning to read/write and speak the language? And have you failed to notice the number of existing mosques here? My first thought is good, may be able to get some decent babaganoush!

What have Thai Malays got to do with arabs? Different language, different culture, probably different brand of Islam, too.

Then there's a little difference - Thais are occupying Pattani's land, and Arabs are moving into heart of Bangkok - Rama 9.

As for Thais not being able to enter somewhere in their own country - Arabs didn't invent that. Thais are not welcome in farang go-go bars, and no one is welcome in Japanese clubs.

According to Islamic law, a Muslim woman may not be with or marry a non-muslim man. A muslim man can be with a christian or jewish woman. The child of the relationship must have a muslim father. So, not to sound mean, your TGF isn't much into the religion probably. If you were both carrying on your relation in the middle-east, most likely she would be beaten, ostracized, or killed...usually by her own family out of shame.

Could also argue what have muslims to do with Arabs..?

I have spend many a day enjoying a pleasant beer and bacon sarnie with loads of old Arabs mates.

One memorable occasion during Rami D once the local "funny" police in Bahrain kept on about on me old mucker Sheik**** because he didnt give a toss about religion and preferred Amstel to praying....great bloke..

Fortunately he was a cousin of Sheik Isa Bi* ** K*****....so... :D ...another great.........anyone remember "his Beach"?

On an earlier occasion we used to get our beer for our bar from a N/m guy call Abdul (the D.C.M. in Basra) and Saturday night ..ie Thursday night was always a Sharazad /Fatima happy hour do and we had loads of the local Iraqis and their families wif us......dinna believe in Sterotypes :o

Ever think about THAILAND? there is no Sharia Law here ... nor does every Muslim country have it ...

And if you are a X-ian ... the fundie Xian freaks would happily stone you for 70% of what you do and justify it by the law of the Levites.

Basically the one rant ponies here that whine about Muslims particularly in Thailand have a LOT to learn

why play the racialist and predudist card, say something constructive.

could you please tell me where thier is a muslim arab town settlement outside of the arab nations, where it has been intergrated and working within a different community succesfully.

i am in no way being racialist but only realistic, i would love to see this type of thing work, but i would hate to see it ruin an area of bangkok, this should take a lot of planning and research to get it right, and not just rush into the planning and take the attitude 'lets see how it pans out'

if you need a fix of arabian dishes well go no further than the grace hotel and the immediate area.

don,t forget the thais will not be as lenient as the west, if there are problems the reprisals by the thais will be swift. and that can escallate any situations,

be very carefull and thoughtfull in the early planning stages of this type of project.

Well, not a surprise. Name one thing that is not payable in Thailand...Anyways, Sukhumvit got a little bit of an arab neighbourhood already. It gives me the crips when I see their females walking around dressed as ninjas, it's not racist, it's just esthethical, personally, I don't like them.

GBT

I have a brother who converted to Islam 20 years ago when he moved to Cairo so I am up to speed thank you.

Regarding the GF It is intersing how many Muslims around the world are not 'practicing' but take the parts of the teaching that fits in with their lifestyles

The point was not to tarnish all Muslims because a few are K*obheads

Same same...when in MBK we were wandering around and this M.E couple walked past us...the man was wearing a pair of shorts, t-shirts, sunglasses and pair of trainers...his wife trussed up head to foot :o

That is like saying Christians don't go by the bible. Anyways, it is not Shaira law, have your TGF read you the Koran. Yes, Muslims are different everywhere just like Christians are different everywhere. But just as Christians have had to come face to face with the things Christianity has done in the name of religion (it is constantly brought up by the media and Left-leaning politicians who see religion as a posion [opiate] of the masses) so to it is time for the average Muslim to stand up, in mass, and speak out about what a few are doing in their name. After Israel invaed Lebanon to knock out Hamas's ability to fire rockets deep into Israel there a few thousand demonstrators in England (Homegown Muslims) who were in the streets chanting "We are all Hamas". If you are so inlcined, take your TGF to Saudi and walk down any street in Riyadh and see how far you get. Yes, yes the crusades were horrible but, uh, they didn't have access to the "Bomb", or biological weapons (except for the "old diseased cow trick"). In the name of their religion, they are willing to kill their own, strap a bomb to a kid and tell him to go get some free candy from the soldiers at the street, ect., ect., so on and so on. Political correctness goes out the window when it becomes a battle for civilization. On a happier note, how is everybody doing today? :o

Look at every major conflict in the world today and you will find its Muslims vs SomeoneElse....Muslims vs Hindus, Muslims vs Christians, Muslims vs Budhists etc etc...only one common factor....
