NACC expected to rule on fate of ex-commerce minister Boonsong today



BANGKOK: -- The National Anti-Corruption Commission is expected to rule today whether to press criminal charges against former commerce minister Boonsong Teriyaphirom and scores of people, including government officials and businessmen, in connection with dubious government-to government rice deals.

NACC secretary-general Sansern Polajiak said that once the commission ruled that there are enough grounds of wrongdoings against the people involved, the case will be forwarded to the Office of Attorney-General for consideration.

He insisted that the NACC’s decision would have no bearing whatsoever on the National Legislative Assembly which is due to impeach or to not impeachment against former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra regarding the rice pledging scheme on Thursday.

Mr Boonsong, meanwhile, said that he believed the NACC would definitely rule against him and other people anyway because the NACC has been sending out this message to the media all along.

The government-to-government deals under investigation by the NACC are alleged to be fabricated to cheat the state of the rice bought under the rice pledging scheme.

BANGKOK: -- The National Anti-Corruption Commission Tuesday resolved to charge former commerce minister Boonsong Teriyaphirom and former deputy commerce minister Poom Sarapol for having abused rice in the government stockpile.

NACC Wicha Mahakhun said the NACC decided to file corruption charges against Boonsong and Poom in the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Political Office Holders in the fake government-to-government rice deal case.

The two have claimed that the government had won a deal to sell its rice bought from farmers under the rice-pledging scheme to the Chinese government.

But the NACC's fact finding committee said business firms that were commissioned to undertake the G-to-G deal actually sold the rice locally, instead of exporting them and they also claimed tax refunds form the government.

Wicha alleged that Boonsong and Poom violated both the government bidding law and the NACC act.

Wicha said the two would face charges along with 21 other accomplices.

He said the NACC would also summon over 100 rice trading firms to be questioned and they might be sued to pay compensations to the government with a total value of Bt600 billion.

October 11, 2012 - Boonsong Teriyaphirom yesterday asked the public to ignore export figures and other evidence indicating that government-to-government rice contracts are not real. The government can gain Bt260 billion by next year by selling up to 11 million tons of its stockpiled rice, of which 7.32 million tons would go to four countries under G2G deals.

Well they did not gain 260 billion baht because the G2G rice deals were fake.

This is the PTP putting "beliefs" before "facts" again.

The facts were export figures and other evidence. The belief was something that may or may not happen next year. For a minister to tell the people to ignore export figures and other evidence while telling them to believe something that might happen in the future beggars belief and shows YET AGAIN the contempt the PTP have in the voters and in fact insults the intelligence of all Thai's.

No they haven't. You have been sending this message out of your guilt since the 11th of October, 2012.

In 2012 Boonsong told the people to ignore facts. In 2013 he welcomed any investigation into his rice dealings. In 2014 he said he was prepared for any investigation. In 2015 he is crying foul after the investigation. Most guilty people do when they are found out.

He is a victim alright. A victim of his own dishonesty.

All the PTP gang try to avoid and dismiss any accusations by claiming "they're political" but without actually denying the charges, or showing any evidence to exonerate themselves.
