Experience with spoken Thai, but no skills at writing and reading ? Which School to attend ?

Featured Replies

Hello dear Forum,

i know now 24 years this beautyfull country and have lived steady the last three in it. My spoken thai is for normal situation pretty good and succesfull, however difficult topics going quick over my limit. I have learned my thai just from going on situation, never yet attended a school. My english is ok, native language is german and im currently based at Sukhumvit On Nut.

So, im in search for the right school as my life situation has changed dramatically and i have the goal to improve my spoken thai and learn to reading at least. Guess it has to be modular ? As i need different start levels, like level 1 for the text and higher for spoken thai ?

You do have any recomendations for this case ? Anything accessible with BTS and MRT is good for me.

Hopefully,

Luke

On Sukumvit Soi 15 (Walking distance from Asok BTS station/Sukumvit MRT station), there is a school called Duke, which I found to be pretty good. I don't know what they're like in regards to teaching reading/writing, as I could already read/write, however in general they seem pretty good (And are relatively cheap too, so worth giving a shot). You can do a search online for their website.

Also Walen does split classes for learning Thai script & for speaking, I took a demo lesson there, and it seemed alright. They also have a school in, I think it's the Times Mall, next to the Asok BTS/Sukumvit MRT stations, only about 100m from the BTS station. They're a little bit more expensive, but the split classes is one of the things you asked about (Thaiwalen.com is their website).

Both of the schools above offer free demonstration lessons for 1h (A lot of other schools also offer free demonstration lessons too), and that way you can see if it's the learning style which you like or not, as everyone has learning environments etc which they like. For me, I did demo lessons at both and found that the style of Duke was more suited to what I was after, but you should check out both.
