I have opted to get my vaccinations whilst in LOS, rather than doing it here in the states seeing as the cost of Thyphoid, Hep A& B, and tetnus was going to run in the USD 400.00 neighborhood. Can anyone suggest a good clinic for these vaccinations in the Bkk area. Also, are they really neccessary? Small phobia of needles and adverse reactions makes me somewhat hesitant. I should also mention that I plan on traveling through Burma, Nepal, cambodia, and Vietnam. Are there any other vaccinations I should get considering my locales? Thanks for the Advice.

Bumrungrad Hospital Between Soi 1&3 on Sukhumvit, Bangkok General and Bangkok Nursing Home will all be able to give you the right jabs at a low price using international standard treatments and procedures. But beware hep B is a 3 stage vacine from memory and needs to be done over 2-3 months I think.

Hope this helps

They have changed Hep B. It's now two shots instead of three, with a 6 month wait between them. Hep A is 2 shots, 3 months apart. This is info in the US of A. You might want to consider the Japanese Encephalitis vaccination. The incidence of bad side effects is high, but I only know 1 person who was infected, and he ended up a permanent vegetable. Day-biting mossies carry Japanese Encephalitis, so it's not so easy as malaria to avoid.

You should take your vacinations at home some time before going to Thailand. It can vary from 2 weeks to 4 or 6 weeks, but those vaccinations need time to start working. After the vaccination your body starts making anti-body's against the sickness they are meant for. And only when your body is ready with this processe you became immune to the virus.

It's important you have immunity build up before you came into the area. If you caught the sickness at about the same time that you get the vacination you can became deadly sick.

polio is making a comeback in some places.... many doctors in the US are recommending it too... even if you got it years ago, you may want a booster.

The British Dispensary

109 Sukhumvit Road

Bangkok

Tel 02 252 8056

Dr John Dickson

Dr Peter Comer

Comically out of date Dr P! But a word to the wise, avoid Dr "comatose" Comer. In fact I would avoid Dr Paddy Dickson as well unless you have a straightforward case of the clap. The best of these British doctors was Colin Britton who died far too young of cancer several years ago.
