According to the Phuketgazette, the mayor has had yet another change of heart and has decided to ban the use of beach chairs, sunloungers and umbrellas again on Patong Beach forthwith.

You can still bring a beach mat, but that's it.

On the plus side, if there aren't any tourists around on the beach anymore, the jet skis might just go out of business which isn't a bad thing at all.

It really is comical.. In the very news item saying you cant take them to the beach is a video where from the police.. In the same news report banning them "we told the tourists, they can sunbathe and use beach chairs and umbrellas anywhere on the beach, if anyone gives them trouble, please tell the police".. Thats the direct quote from the police in the news article thats announcing that no more beach chairs.

The about faces, and miss management, is just spectacular.. A transparent open bidding system, for a limited amount of concessions (both in area and amount of chairs) is not rocket science..

I personally don't care but the general consensus is the chairs and umbrellas are missed. Europeans complain thailand sun is too hot to be subject to it for more than 20 mins.

Europeans are used to the cooler Mediterranean sun and can bask in it all day long.

Have you ever been to Greece in june - aug ? Temp. around 40-45 degree celsius, cant even go in pool cause Water too hot

In comparison to the Patong Government, the Muppets are rocket scientist. But it looks like that tourist don't give a flying fart about it, as the beach was busy with deck chairs and parasols today. And I hope it will stay like this or event better, the chairs for rent will be brought back.

Its all part of their plan;

Farang free beaches.:)

So first they take away the restaurants ,so now our food and water supply been cut of.

Then they take away our beds umbrellas and chairs...Done..

Anyone still mad enough to visit any Thai beach well skin cancer will surely do its job..

Why cant it get organised like beaches in abroad? This surely generates high revenue yields for the country...

Why beaches all of sudden need to be boring and dead? with only jet ski owners mafia to stay ? :(
