Popular Post Benmart
Think SARCASM guys, canuck was trying to be funny.I find no humour in the death and injury of others, regardless of nationality or the mechanism of the event.Others are certainly free to do so. rijb
Bus driver loses control of bus, at night. Maybe a little sleepy? I wonder how many deaths are caused by negligent (bus, van, big truck) drivers.

villagefarang
I find it unfortunate that Chiang Rai is so often referenced in news item about death and drugs. There is so much more to our lovely province but it seems to be less news worthy. In the article the “sudden” loss of control sounds like an excuse. From my years of driving here it seems more likely he was trying to overtake other vehicles and the truck driver was unable to avoid a massive bus occupying his lane. I am pleased they have arrested and charged the bus driver. Edited January 25, 2015 by villagefarang
Popular Post canuckamuck
My goodness people you are quite sensitive this morning. OK I apologize for choosing the wrong thread to make an offhand remark. I was not inferring any disrespect to those involved with the crash. I was making a satirical comment about the fact that they called it a Korean bus not a Thai bus full of Koreans. As you may have noticed there is an aversion to connecting Thailand to any fault and great lengths are taken to do so. This was entirely the fault of Thais in one way or another, yet the headline seems to make it about the tourists who are the innocent victims. This is a stretch of road I travel every few days and I have seen numerous crashes and have been involved in many tight situations. All because there are almost no passing lanes for a very long stretch and impatient people drive too fast and overtake despite the danger. The bus drivers are very often causing the danger. Very sorry to hear about the death and injuries.

iReason
I believe the driver explained clearly that his actions caused the crash; "According to Luen, he "suddenly" lost control of the bus and slammed into the pick-up truck on the opposite lane at a high speed. bangarang
This should add some fuel the argument about raising airline prices so the buses can compete. Lord knows we feel safer on a thai road... said no one ever!

The cycle never ends.

Unfortunately the bus driver will probably get a small fine and be back on the road next week.
chiang mai
A combination of bad moves: in a tour bus + driving in Thailand + driving around midnight or in the wee hours - especially bad in the extreme north during late hours.
Jim walker
Usual start to any comment regarding the Thai roads or driving R.I.P to the dead and a speedy recovery to the injured tourists, and we can see that not much has improved regarding the deaths on the roads since the junta took over the country. Same as "duh", etc. Edited January 26, 2015 by Benmart
