Chanthaburi faces serious youth problems

Youth problems in Chanthaburi are as serious as those in other provinces as a lot of teens have engaged in risk behaviour, including premature sex.

Researcher Amornwit Nakhonthap (อมรวิชช์ นาครทรรพ) said a survey on 2,000 students from primary school to university levels in Chanthaburi found a lot of them have been addicted to the Internet and overly consumed technology like youngsters in other provinces.

Mr. Amornwit said 11.8% of samples at secondary school level, 9.7% in high schools, 35.8% in vocational training colleges and 36.5% in universities admitted to already have had sex. They also did not like to use condoms, he added.

Mr. Amornwit said 42% of primary school samples rarely gave alms to monks in the morning.
