As I have just had a son 3 months ago in Thailand (not married, but my surname on Thai birth cert), I just recently received my first 90 day non-immigrant 'O' visa in Savannakhet (a doddle). Great staff & didn't even look at my Thai bank book, a bonus as I didn't have 400K in my Thai account (had Euro bank's statement though just in case). I believe I can extend it at the immigration in Thailand. I am simply wondering - for how long will the extension be (I've heard a year)? Secondly what paperwork will I need for the extension? If the same as sleepy Savannakhet it would be great..

To get a one year extension of stay based upon being the parent of a Thai you will need to legitimize your parent hood.

After you do the legitimization you would need 400k baht in a Thai bank in your name only or proof of 40k baht income.

You can get a 60 day extension with just your name on the birth certificate to visit you child. Your child would need to be with you when you apply. You will need the birth certificate plus a copy and a copy of their house book registry.
