BANGKOK: -- Thailand yesterday hosted the 52nd Thai-Malaysian General Border Committee (GBC) meeting in Bangkok, where the military of both countries discussed expanding collaboration in various affairs along their common border.

Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwon and Malaysian Defence Minister Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin bin Tun Hussein jointly presided over the meeting at the Army Club.

Both sides acknowledged proposals for joint initiatives set by the high-level committee manned by the supreme commanders of both countries.

They also acknowledged results of regional border committee meetings and joint security operations, and discussed economic collaboration along the shared border.

Among other issues discussed were joint narcotic suppressions, human trafficking, contraband, transnational crime and terrorism along their common border.
