RichardThailand
We're living between Nimman and Canal Road on 11th floor and I am just wondering if the smog in that area will be the same as all over CM or any worse. Also around what time can we expect to start noticing the bad air starting?
Tokay
As far as I know, when the smog comes, everyone in CM gets it, but you seem to notice it more around the mountain as it diminishes your view. But I don't think it is any worse there, it's only the visual. End of February or early March you will notice the start of burn season. Can't miss it. Unless the junta pulls a rabbit from their bum, it's going to be pretty bad. You'll want a proper mask if you're going to be out a lot in it. I find it sad they can not get the burning under control. Chiang Mai is such an awesome place that gets ruined by pollution (burning, smoke belching from cars / trucks...).
WinnieTheKhwai
Not only is it the same anywhere in town, it's also the same anywhere in the North. The closer you get to Burma, the worse it gets. (Places like Mae Hong Son and Chiang Rai).
daveAustin
Stoping the burning in and around cm wouldn't make much difference.

Thailand
I have noticed the haze already and the smell of burning is becoming more noticeable. Next couple on months are likely to be pretty awful particularly for those with respiratory problems.
MESmith
Very smokey in rural villages. cold nights means more burning & cool air above traps all the smoke. Try visiting Mae On early morning

hmficc
Good time to be somewhere else. Do you like sea and sand?
DaamNaam
Stoping the burning in and around cm wouldn't make much difference. But it is still essential that it does stop.
