Passport renewal at the same time as visa renewal

Hi,

I have to renew my British passport as it expires in July. I have an appointment with the British passport office in BKK at the end of February but apparently it takes about 6 weeks minimum to get it back. The problem is that my visa expires at the end of March.

What happens in this situation? I have read that you need at least 6 months to apply for a visa renewal, but I'll only have about three and a half. I can't leave the country while my passport is being renewed but I'm not allowed to stay without a visa and they won't give me that without a new passport.

Would they be good enough to give me a renewal as long as they know I have a new passport on its way?

Or will I have to leave before my visa expires and not apply for a new passport?

Anyone have any experience of this situation?
