Navy rescues tourists off Koh Lanta

KRABI: -- The Navy rescued nine French tourists on a diving trip after their boat malfunctioned off Krabi province on Monday night.

The Navy was alerted at 8pm that a boat with foreign tourists has broken down about 15 nautical miles from Koh Lanta. Another boat apparently had tried to help but ended up colliding with the first due to strong wind and big waves.

Four men, four women and a child were on the boat,

Waves were too high for the Navy's rescue boat to draw close to the diving boat so officers threw lifebuoys and pulled the tourists to the rescue vessel.

The entire procedure lasted more than an hour.

Investigations revealed that the tourists had been taken on a dive trip to see the coral. After their boat broke down and the second failed to rescue them, the panicked tourists decided to call for help.
