SunsetT
If freeing caged birds gives one good Karma what does caging them in the first place do for one's Karma? This place never ceases to amaze me. I wonder how the Budda would spin that? Yes, if everyone stopped paying to free them then there would be no market for them to be captured and imprisoned in the first place......Makes me angry when I see the caged birds industry thriving outside of temples. bronco10250
"90 percent of parents strongly disagreed with the measure. They believed that vending machines would encourage teens to have sex." Yes, that vending machine is giving me ideas that I never got from my hormones, or pheromones or advertising, or porn, or R rated movies, or the examples of my peers, or parents. . . . or the way girls dress, or . . . we cannot go there can we? I must use it. Sexy vending machines. Almost as sexy as farang men. Just another attempt from the Thai Ultra-conservative branch to keep the youth under their control. Backwarded control freaks! SunsetT
Promoting birth control is the only way for Thais, bless em. After all, when it comes to sex, they are only one step up the evolutionary chain from bonobo monkeys. Isnt that what attracted most of us here in the first place.........? .......... DeepInTheForest
"... nightclubs and entertainment venues are encouraged to report any inappropriate behavior." Why didn't someone think of this approach before? This may be a very lengthy report, but I am sure that the authorities will use it effectively to solve this problem. thhMan
It only gets more retarded by the day... I think Thailand should push for a minimum 100 IQ for people, by introducing education into schools and even explaining what "logic" means... Then long jail terms for officials that make such stupid statements! Some things should remain the responsibility of parents....
NanLaew
The annual Valentine's admonishment has been issued in lieu of any formal discussion of the total lack of sex education in LOS. Meanwhile, thousands of freshly pubescent and fertile country lasses will be sneaking off for a hot, lao khao and morlam fueled shag with their boyfriend, somewhere behind the stupas at the countless 2-day temple tamboons and associated shows that miraculously seem to coincide with Valentine's weekend every year. See you again next year, same time, same place.
manhood
Those Officials must be totally crazy do demand the youngster for A DAY not getting too close instead teaching them how to handle their sex life in a proper and good way, neither parents do so as nobody talk about sex and the schools are far from anything in that! Poor Thailands education!!!!!!!! One day without haveing sex wont help to solve the problems!

jaywalker
Same Same from Big Brother. Been reading the same malarkey from the Thai press for decades. I wonder how many folks in Thailand have a birthday of mid-November?????? Is there an abnormal spike in the birth rate 9 months after Valentine's Day?...Or is it just Big Brother spouting BS? Methinks the latter. Anyhow, HEAVEN FORBID that humans propagate!

ttthailand
I wonder what other holidays are high sex times ? There should be a study on what dates people get pregnant. Take everyone's date of birth and go back 9 months I guess would be a start. If valentines day is the number one sex day that would mean most Thais are born around November 14. Would be interesting to know what this really is in Thailand. The US has the highest birth rate in September meaning that Christmas and New Years holiday is heavy sex time. November is way down the list .... Trying to figure out if school kids are having sex you would also need to figure in the mothers age.

My daughter (Nina) was born 9 months to the day (had to have been that one night I was bouncing her Mommy's head off the wall in the shower). I had just gotten a vacation after 6 months in the desert of Kuwait & January 20th was conception night. October 20th here came our bundle of joy. Wife's sister had a baby exact 21 days before she did - Can you say New Year's baby-making? dotpoom
Yeah, right, and these 'officials' never got it on when they were kids, of course! You'll have to come up with a better plan than urging them to visit a ... temple I'm afraid. This is teens you're talking about, they think a little bit differently than you. You're right there...they were teens themselves at one time........but then they grew up and are now trying to pass on the little bit of the wisdom they picked up whilst growing up and maturing. Perhaps suggesting attendance at a Temple in liu of sex could be improved upon but then again, I'm always gladdened when I see how seriously a lot of Thais seem to take their devotion to the Buddha. Lupatria
Pirapong Saicheua, a city official, encouraged teens to free birds and fish, or visit the temple instead of making love. I wonder how many 'city officials' previously attended their Ballantines Day Meeting to come up with such an attractive idea. Never thought about the consequences? What if all grandparents usually taking care of unwanted kids turn to illegal Bingo to fight boredom? Edited February 12, 2015 by Lupatria
Beetlejuice
Officials urge teens to avoid sex on Valentine’s Day and to visit temples instead This is good advice. The officials are only putting the young couples in the right frame of mind as to how their relationships will evolve once they get married.
