Only a handful of states did it. However, if Harris would get in, she would be far more extreme with masks and lockdowns than Trump. The Thai Baht is experiencing considerable strength against the US dollar, but this financial trend is causing concern among Thai economists and exporters. Despite some benefits, the overall impact on Thailand's economy appears to be negative. Dr. Naris Sathapholdeja, head of Data and Analytics at TMB Thanachart Bank, points out that a stronger baht makes Thai exports and tourism more costly. While it reduces the cost of importing oil—estimated at 1.5 trillion baht annually—this saving is overshadowed by potential losses in tourism revenue and export earnings, which collectively exceed 3.6 trillion baht per year. Naris forecasts the baht could strengthen to below 32 per USD, prompting exporters and tourism operators to urge government intervention. Dr. Amornthep Chawla of CIMB Thai Bank attributes the baht's rise to a weaker US dollar and inflows of capital into emerging markets. He highlights that the Bank of Thailand's decision not to cut the base rate is drawing investments into the Thai bond market, further bolstering the baht. Increased confidence in Thailand's economic policies and its status as a gold trading hub also contribute to the currency's appreciation. Kanchana Chokpaisarnsilp from Kasikorn Research Centre expects short-term fluctuations in the baht, ranging between 32.50 and 32.10 per USD. This financial climate is hitting Thai rice exports hard. Chukiat Opaswongse of the Thai Rice Exporters Association reveals a significant slowdown, with exports likely to reach only 8.5 million tonnes this year, down from earlier projections. Rivals such as India and Vietnam, with weaker currencies, are poised to benefit at Thailand's expense. The pressure is on as the economic effects of a strong baht ripple across Thailand, prompting calls for strategic financial measures to mitigate adverse impacts. Step 1: Using the DLT Smart Queue App The DLT Smart Queue app is a helpful tool created by the Department of Land Transport to streamline the appointment process. Instead of waiting in long lines, you can book your time slot ahead of your visit. Here's how to use it: Download the app from the App Store or Google Play. Register by entering your personal details and creating a password. Select your preferred DLT office location. Choose "Licence" as the service type, and specify your vehicle type and licence type. Pick an available date and time for your appointment. Confirm the booking and save the QR code, which you’ll need on the day of your visit. While the app saves time by prioritising people with appointments, be aware that some users have reported difficulties logging in. It could benefit from additional features like fingerprint or face recognition for ease of use. Step 2: Gather the Required Documents Before heading to the Department of Land Transport, make sure you have all your documents ready. For foreigners, the required documents are as follows: A valid passport with at least 6 months of remaining validity. A non-immigrant visa valid for at least 3 months. Your TM6 departure card. Proof of address (can be a letter from immigration or your work permit). A medical certificate from a licensed doctor (valid for one month). Your home country driving licence or an international driving licence (translated into Thai or English if not in English). Two 2-inch photos taken within the last 6 months. Make photocopies of all your documents, sign them, and check with your local DLT office for any recent changes before you visit. Step 3: Physical and Theoretical Tests Once at the DLT office, you’ll undergo both physical and theoretical tests. The physical tests will check for colour blindness, reflexes, and depth perception. You’ll also take a practical driving test, either using a simulator or a real vehicle depending on the office. After passing the physical test, you’ll need to attend a 5-hour training course (or 1 hour for a motorcycle licence), covering Thai traffic rules and road safety. Finally, you’ll take a theory test, consisting of 50 multiple-choice questions. To pass, you’ll need to score at least 90% (45 correct answers), while motorcycle applicants require a 75% pass rate.
