There is a faster way.

But more expensive. Flight direct with Bangkok airways or Thai airways 1 hr 10 min

return flight will cost you around 10,000 baht

Flights to Samui are not very expensive. I am not sure it is worth the time and effort to not fly direct as the OP did.

Bangkok Airways privately developed and owns the Koh Samui airport so they have a monopoly on direct flights from Bangok. Thai has a lease arrangement so they also fly direct.

All other airlines fly either into Surat Thani or Naritawat then van you to the ferry terminal, then the ferry and then an outrageous taxi ride to your final destination.

I have found that factoring in the trip expense and time to to Don Muang (from Central Bangkok) the need to be there at least 2 hours prior to the flight, the hassle of the van transfers, waiting on the ferry and the taxi mafia at Koh Samui makes the overnight bus leaving from Mo Chit at 6:30pm a much more pleasant option. Comfortable seats, easy to sleep. B900

When you add up the time, the reality is you save only about 2 hours flying using the plane-boat route.

Gotta love the cheap Charlies.

There is no way to fly cheaply from BKK to Koh Samui. Bangkok Air have got that all sewn up and its probably the most expensive route in all Asia.

Why ? What are you trying to say ? Please elaborate ?

Gee did you ever concider flying direct into KS from BKK plus taxi trip to your hotel could all be done in under 4 hrs?

Think the time factor and convenience more than compensates the cost of course you could choose another beach holiday elswhere .

Some people have more time than others and some people have traveled around Thailand for many years using different forms of transport, whilst others haven't.

Flown a few times, the first and last flights were around 2k ish a few (think 8) years ago. The airport was nice had a free lounge where you could eat or drink. Unsure if that's still the case.

The train was fine, bus connection straight to Don Sak from the station. This was when it was possible to drink on the trains. I am told that isn't the case now and that sucks balls.

Personally I think the ferry from the mainland to the island is the best part of the journey and enhances any holiday if you have the time.

Im flying to KS but your half right the ferry would be a delight, i plan to take one somewhere during my time there just for the fun of it.
