Avoid Pattaya Nua 24/02/15

Due to electricity work by the Pattaya Provincial Electricity Authority, there is no power in the area and consequently the lights at the junction of 3rd road are not working. Absolute chaos already and best avoided. Went off at 09.10 and due to return early evening of the 24th. Only upside I get a day out of the office!

Once again we are mystified by the lack of coordination and common sense by the local government. How the hell can they shutdown lights at an intersection with this much traffic, and not have police on duty to ensure some measure of order?!! (Granted, they typically screw up the flow of traffic much worse than the usually improperly timed traffic signals; but it's better than the motorized anarchy that exists without them.)

My apartment in Naklua always has a notice from the electric company giving us many days notice of a power cut. Power is promptly restored at 5pm as notified.

You are fortunate, I do not receive such notices and power cuts are often a surprise. There is a possibility the cuts are announced over the village speaker system but I can't understand them, and the wife doesn't bother listening as there is always someone babbling over the speakers about something or nothing.

How is this relevant to the traffic problems?

And here is another W.T.F.? moment brought to you by Pattaya City (mis)management... at 9 PM last night, the traffic lights at Sukhumvit and Tai were on 4-way amber flashing, ie. pot luck, fingers crossed, pray to Buddha and shoot the gap mode.

Not a BiB in sight but pretty sure the body snatchers were parked up the nearest side-soi.

Incredible! Isn't the U-turn and cross traffic there even heavier than usual due to the closures of such traffic at Klang and Soi Siam? May not be a total disaster from 9 PM through the night; but this can't be the plan for daylight hours, can it? Is it still this way this morning?

You know in the rest of the world the police would be required to man an intersection that lost power to the traffic lights for a long period of time, if not, then the utility would be required to pay for an off duty policeman to control traffic

And the government wonders why the police and the government are so despised here

The whole concept of protect and serve is lost in the translation
