I often see squirrels in the trees or running along the power lines, but saw one in my garden for the first time. He seemed to be foraging for food so I walked over to where he was running along my boundary wall. Damn if he didn't jump off the wall and run over and sit on my foot, and calmly let me stroke his back. Had the missus bring me a piece of papaya and he politely took it and jumped back on the wall to eat it. Don't know if he escaped from a cage or he was just completely unafraid. Wish I'd got a photo, but maybe he'll come back now that he knows where he can get a handout.

I don't know. I can tell you I've seen lots of "wild" squirrels like that when they grow up around people who will constantly feed them. I've seen bears like that too. They exist in the US national parks such as Yellowstone etc. etc. because the tourists are constantly feeding them. Then they even begin to beg.

Sometimes a bear like that has to be destroyed after taking it far into the wilderness and releasing it but it finds its way back to people. A bear can cause severe injury or death in a heartbeat just due to its nature, and it's never really tame.

Do you live near a public attraction?

Cheers
