Thanks 1-Yes 2-Yes 1 - Yes 2 - Yes But must have a 5-Year Thai licence Issued by The Land Transport Office ... unfortunately requirements seem to vary between offices so go and ask at your local one and yours will be difference to hers/him. . Jeez! I wouldn't give a Thai driving licence holder a raffle ticket, let alone an International Driving Permit! That said, I didn't know a Farang could get one - that could save me $1 a day when I visit Cambodia!

You do understand that you must have a 5-Year Thai Driving Licence to get an IDP here ....they won't issue you one on your UK licence. You live here and you don't have a Thai Driving Licence! And I'm somewhat offended as I am a Thai Driving Licence Holder as is my wife and we have both held UK Licences in the past!! Edited March 2, 201511 yr by JAS21
March 2, 201511 yr Forget the other two responses. You can get an International Drivers Permit only in your home country. So, yes, a Thai person can get one here, if available. No, a falang cannot. I wish I could tell a Thai exactly where to get one in Thailand. In the U.S., you must go to you nearest AAA office, which is an insurance company. You will not be buying insurance, only an IDP. If Thai, I would ask at the DLT. (Department of Land Transport), where drivers licenses are acquired. Good luck. Hope this helps.

If living here and in possession of a 5 year license a foreigner can get an IDP here.

I get an IDP every year here in Thailand and I am as you say ... a falang. As I said you get it from the Land Transport Office. Please don't post unless you know the facts ... it doesn't help

You can get an IDP for any full driving licence you hold, obtained in that country. So a Thai with a U.K licence can get an IDP in U.K only. An Australian with a US licence can get an IDP in the US etc Here in Thailand they are available, for anyone with a 5 yr Thai license, at DLT offices. Not all offices though apparently, so would need to ask at your local one.
