Vet to help with taking dog to the UK

Featured Replies

Can anyone recommend a vet with good experience of the procedures and documentation prior to taking a dog to the UK. It seems I will need to get back for a few months for a medical problem in the family.

I tried two vets today including one which I thought had done this for other dogs but neither inspired much confidence and the information they gave me was not the same as the information on the government website. Neither asked if our dog has been microchipped but were ready to do the rabies vaccine. One also said that after the vaccine we need to do a blood test after 3 weeks while the website says 3 months. They also did not mention tapeworm. It is possible that they know what they are doing and the website is out of date or that I did not talk to the best person but I would appreciate recommendations of any vets who have a proven track record with this.

Thanks

You should contact dog rescue center, they have a lot of experience with this.

Thanks I will try them. Did not occur to me that they would send dogs overseas until I saw some posts in the Chiang mai forum saying they do it fairly often.

The vets I have spoken to only seem interested in getting 10,000 for the blood test but seem a bit sloppy with the documentation and were not intending to read the microchip to confirm it is actually the right dog.

Contact Soi Dogs or Lanta Animal Welfare. These 2 organisations have loads of experience with this.

Thanks everyone. I have contacted Samui dog rescue and they made me feel very comfortable and know exactly what is involved and can help us. Looks like we may also be able to help them a bit by escorting any other dogs going to homes in the UK.

As I suspected the vet was wrong about some of the process and even with the rabies jab did not do the supporting documentation fully.
