So how is the crime scene, do they still have exhibits? Oh well write it off as death by coincidence.

Their police training works a treat doesn't it, good that we have an independent justice system with the police working tirelessly for the good of the public. The wild west without sheriffs comes to mind.

Better late then never, but a 7 1/2 year delay is unforgivable. It is high time to instigate meaningful and thorough police reform, perhaps using the aborted effort in 2002 (13 years ago) as a starting point.

agree. it seems like the current govt is moving at a swift pace on most murder investigation, its a welcome move nonetheless compare to the previous governments which just shelf the cases

The DSI are not too hot at dealing with current cases and this is a very cold one !

Anyone holding their breath ?

I'm not.

As I said yesterday, probably the police did it and we will never know the truth.

All this DNA testing and reopened investigations is to pull wool over the japanese eyes.

The outcome will be zilch.

Or they find a scapegoat.....!!!....any Burmese around ????

Why is it so difficult to get the murder of a tourist investigated in Thailand?

not to worry, word on the street is a couple young thug burma boys did this. they ran away to some island, who knew ? :-)

In case it's not clear, the article is saying that DSI is now opening its own investigation, not that there has never been any investigation until now.

The test was intended to dispel public suspicion that the border police might be involved in the murder as earlier autopsy indicated that the knife used to kill the Japanese tourist was a bayonet used only in the military and border police.

...............

Earlier the DSI has come up with a new theory that the victim might have been killed by her murderer using a military knife and not a kitchen knife as earlier thought.

If an earlier autopsy (and presumably the only autopsy) indicated the death was related to a bayonet, then who was thinking it was a kitchen knife, especially in all the years that passed from the autopsy until the case was finally transferred to the DSI?

But then again, what are we to think about the credibility of Thai autopsy findings, especially after the latest fiasco with the Canadian sisters and the DEET vs Phosphine controversy...

For the past almost six years, there has been no progress about the case although many dozens of suspects were rounded up and eventually released.

More fine first-rate Thai police work there.... whistling.gif
