FDA to impose limits on steroid sales
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will soon limit the amount of steroids that a pharmacy can sell, with a doctor's prescription, at up to 1,000 pills a month and require outlets to report details including steroid suppliers, plus the amounts procured and amount sold, deputy FDA secretary-general Prapon Angtrakul said yesterday.

The move aims to curb the problem of people adding steroids to medicinal products like pharmacist-prescribed drug sets and unregistered traditional medicines, Prapon said. He warned that steroids could cause thinning of the gastrointestinal tract wall and bones and a sudden stop of usage could lead to hypotension, unconsciousness or death.

If the moves were insufficient, the FDA would further restrict the sale of steroids solely to hospitals, he said. If the two measures failed, FDA would get its 44 checkpoints nationwide to crack down on steroid smuggling.

laugh.png Good luck with that! I think you would be better spending your time and money cleaning up the grotty areas of Bangkok.

A bigger threat to public health is over-the-counter anti-biotics.

It's not an exaggeration to say that resistant bacteria could pose a dire threat to the whole world.

FDA should concentrate on priorities.
