Commerce Ministry to auction aged rice after legal procedures finish

BANGKOK, 5 Mar 2015, (NNT) - According to the Ministry of Commerce, degenerate rice in government stock which is currently being investigated by the officials will be put in auction when the legal proceeding is over.

Director-General of the Department of Foreign Trade Duangporn Rodpaya explained that the investigation aimed at bringing the culprits involved in the sales of low-grade rice is expected to be over by August, after which the auction can be conducted.

She said that several companies, both local and foreign, have expressed their interests in the aged grains for use in various industries.

The Director-General stated the officials could not let go of the rice as it is being used as evidence in a legal case. Once the case is solved in the coming month, the rice would be available for auction.

Ms. Duangporn also assured that most of the rice in the existing government stockpiles are of good quality and have attracted continued interest from buyers.

Does that equate to using it for human consumption ?

It is actually good to see that there will be someone who wants to pay for what remains after the edible stuff is gone.

The price will be low but nothing can be done about that now for the spoilage has been caused by poor storage conditions.

The sooner it is all gone the better for warehouse rental costs are still mounting.

The NCPO audits in July 2014 found 90% was in good quality.

Then Prayut in November 2014 said only 10% was good quality.

Now we are back to most are good quality.

Maybe this is why people have so many different viewpoints about the value of the rice. Regardless what anyone thinks, the market price never lies. Maybe soon we'll know the truth.

In all fairness refer to the rice as Vintage Rice this way you can command top dollar for it. VOS= very old S-it VOSSW= very old s-it stolen from warehouse, VOSSWMPP= very old stole s-it from warehouse minister preferred profit.

If you can't pay the farmers who grew the stuff, give it back to them!........as for getting old?......who stored the stuff in the first place? Now you want to turn it over to some company to do the dirty work and mix the old with the new and sell it to who....US THE CONSUMER?....No thanks, I'll go for Vietnamese rice, at least I know it will be fresh!

Indeed and you might like to ask how it got to be that way, who was it that stored the stuff in poor conditions ?

So they should therefor not sell it when someone wants to buy.

Please detail the industries that are going to return the poor quality rice into the food chain.

Do you not think there are other things that the bad quality rice can be used for ?

Possibly you should reexamine your word fool and see how it fits those who are only here for a bash.
