Of course thinking about it this is the registered population so doesn't include: 1. Thais who have their house registration somewhere else in the country 2. Migrant workers (Burmese, Lao, etc...) 3. Foreigners on "long term" visas (Retirement, Non-O) 4. Foreigners on short term visa who regularly run to the border 5. Tourists Surely it is possible for immigration to give numbers for 2 and 3 since we have to register our address. It would give a more realistic idea of how many people are living here. Still for Koh Tao I would have assumed that if there was no one registered as living at a property that it wouldn't be counted as a home, or is home just a bad translation of property (of any sort) and therefore includes offices and hotels as well.

samjaidee
There's only one way to get population statistics for a small holiday island like Koh Samui that have any value. A census.

This would be someone who has rental properties, a book for each unit. Ooo - confused. So a Thai 'owner' who has a house with 8 family members in it counts as one house book = 1 person? Do they just count how many houses are registered and then simply transpose that into 'people'? How does it work? If the Romans could work out how to do a census 2,000 years ago, surely the Thais can figure out how many people are actually resident on one little island? As foreigners can not be in a blue house book there are house-books with no residents.
