children overstay

Featured Replies

my son's wife went to Thailand to visit family at Christmas . She entered Thailand on thai passport but the children entered on aussie passports. children had a tourist visa. Wife went awol for some time and the children are now on overstay 4-6 weeks. any advice on what happens at immigration when the leave Thailand this week. Thanks in advance

I don't think children can be fined for overstay. There is an age cut off but not sure. Maybe 16?

If they cant be on overstay... Do they really need to buy a VISA???

And if so, how can a thai embassy sell it to children??

Just small thoughts...

Children can be on overstay (same as adults) but they will (normally) not be fined when they are below the age of 15.

They will get a overstay stamp their passport but this has no effect on future stays in Thailand

Children under the age of 15 are not fined for the overstay but they do get an overstay stamp.

They are still on overstay. Just because they don't pay a fine does not mean they don't need visas. Once they go on an overstay they are still here in the country illegally.

IMO parents who do not maintain visas and or extensions for their children are negligent and perhaps should have to pay a fine for it.

Also to note that the kids in question are Thai, having a Thai mother. The parents should get them the Thai birth certificate, ID card, (if 7 yrs at least), and passport. This way they could stay legally in their country for as much they please.
