MrWorldwide
dare we to say ? thailand, hub of suicide Not unless you consider being 66 on a list of 111 countries counts as a 'hub'. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_suicide_rate#List China ranks higher than Thailand on that list, but is it really such a big shock that some of the tourists who come here dont want to go back ? Syria, Egypt and Haiti are all near the bottom of that list, but how many are lining up to visit any of those countries ? Thailand does attract older men who want their last weeks to be relatively happy, but this guy doesnt appear to be part of that demographic. Benmart
I find no humour in the misfortune, misery and distress of others. Those that opt to make jokes are certainly free to do so and must live a sad and inhumane existence. Glad the man was taken to the station where a translator could help getting additional information and assistance.

But if there was a list of countries that broke out tourist suicides, am pretty sure Thailand would be near the top of the list. Especially since Thailand rules nearly every death a suicide, even if you are found hung with your hands tied.. :-)
Daniel Ingalls
Its just so more easier for the homicide division of a police force to declare it a suicide, especially when their are no suspects in the vicinity.............case closed.
96tehtarp
I hope the poor chap gets the help he needs. At only 24 years old he should have many years ahead of him. I'm not sure what kind of mental health care he can expect to get in China.

Basil B
Maybe easier to get tanked up, hire a bike and zoom around at full speed without a crash helmet like the others who want to end it.
chooka
Why take him to the police station and not a psych facility for assessment? Because....."At the station a translator was contacted" and a translator can't be contacted at a proffessional psych facility????We must take persons who act strangely, who exhibit self harm or are a certain threat to others to a psych unit to be accessed. Every single police station has access to these services where translators of every known language are available. We actually have an arrest power under the mental health Act Sect 357 to arrest any numbnut No need like Thailand to apply for a warrant whilst he carves himself or another up. balo
Why Pattaya? Why not Bangkok or Chiang Mai ? They all seem to think Pattaya is the place to do crime, murder and suicide.
MrWorldwide
Wouldn't Thailand be a true Utopia if all the violent crime was confined to an area bordered by Soi 6, Beach Road to Walking St and Second Road back to Soi 6 - sadly, many Thai people would have their homes resumed to make way for condo projects to house the millions who would flock here. Enterprising tour guides could organise a whole new experience in touring - you sit in an armored car, safari-style, as it does the Beach Rd circuit while a local sits up the front reciting horrific tales of murder and mayhem. Walking St's famous neon sits dark and ominous, signs dangling from their supports and everywhere there's a sense of being watched by an unseen, hungry mob. The engine sounds like its on its last legs, the driver is clearly drunk and you tell yourself this is the last time you let someone else organise your itinerary. On quiet nights, they could slip a katoey a couple of hundred to run after the car throwing bottles and screaming obscenities. Think of it as that one lion that suddenly lunges at the car, causing the occupants to soil their undergarments - priceless. Yep - no crime outside central Pattaya - we can all go back to bed now while the missus makes us a cup of warm cocoa. Nighty night.
