XBox - Amazon.co.uk shipping to Thailand

I’ve just ordered an Xbox One from Amazon.co.uk. I made sure to select a listing from a trusted distributor (Microsoft) which offered global shipping. It was 310 with free delivery to the UK, however when I checked out and entered my Thai address that price had gone down to 267 including postage.

So basically all they’ve done is knocked the VAT off and added a postage charge.

I have to assume, then, that there will be taxes and duties payable when the package arrives in Thailand- even though the chat room assistant on Amazon.co.uk explicitly told me that this would not be the case and that no further costs will be payable (I got a transcript of this conversation via e-mail).

Acknowledging that ‘if a deal sounds too good to be true it probably is’, what can I expect in the way of customs fees and tax costs when it arrives? Will I have to pay these at my local post office?

I’m not too worried about the actual cost, after some googling it seems 30% might be worst case which would still make it cheaper than a Thai market console from the shops… I’m more worried about the delay and the risk that I’m going to have to go to Bangkok or something to sort the fees out…

Most amazon parcel are taxed high mostly send global with dhl and then the problem begins better buy the console on eBay from a dealer and sent with national postoffice I checked all amazon store world wide and order something to Thailand also german amazon begin to add taxes for export automaticly like eBay is it can happen that you allready pay taxes depend on Amazon store you order and then postman charge taxes again, to claim the doubled payed money back from Amazon sometime need time up to 2 month some items Amazon uk stop send to Thailand last year no problem german Amazon also chancel order of consoles this year Italy Amazon and Spain also not deliver only one to deliver without any problems a higher selection of items can be ordered on Amazon France everything areived more quickly then from uk with a minimum transport fee of 15€, because of high pound now and bad exchange rates it's the better and cheaper deal you order everything from Amazon France to thailand!

This my test results checking order possibility on all Amazon stores worldwide !

A strange thing is still the much diffrent tax that Amazon add diffrent taxes depend on item you want to order , last year in a order test want to add 60€ tax on a stand alone DVD player on Amazon Germany to thailand even higher then the complete value of the item itself!

Asking Amazon what the reason of diffrent taxes on Amazon of electronic items and console , nobody from the hotline can Aswer this question!

A sign that the under paid stuff , is only trained well to aswer all your question for national orders!

When it comes to export question , stuff Is at the end with his Latin, and you here only silence in the phone, but not get any clear answer !

If a rep truly told you what you say they did via Amazon chat, you're almost guaranteed to get a refund of any charges with very little effort. My advice is to A - be outraged and angry, and B - ask to escalate if they refuse.

If they are shipping from the UK, you are liable for at least import duty, Video Consoles are 40% import duty according to http://igtf.customs.go.th/igtf - not cheap..

In terms of inconvenience, I've been taxed on similarly priced electronic items before - they just went to the local post office and I got a card telling me I had to go and pay.

If it works anything like Ebay's global shipping program, it will come in just a few days and you won't pay one Baht extra.

This confirms my suspicion that there is no way of knowing or calculating this in advance (because Thailand!) and I'm just going to have to wait and see.

The order is being fulfilled from Germany via DHL apparently, but my payment was made to 'Amazon s.a.r.l' in Luxembourg.

P.S. What forum is this in now? And why move the thread at all, this is not a question about I.T. I just thought that the contents of the package would could be relevant to the discussion.

Here's your answer: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_left_v4_sib?ie=UTF8&nodeId=200556780

For items sold by Amazon EU Sarl, you won't be charged any additional fees if the actual Import Fees exceed the Import Fees Deposit we estimated. For items sold by Sellers, please check the applicable Seller's policies.[/size]

So, not the same as the Ebay Global Shipping program, which guarantees no additional charges no matter who fulfils the order, but conversely, does not refund any money if the actual fees were less.
