John Karr Innocent!

I do not believe he has yet been convicted of anything. I think it is probable he will be convicted of those misdemeanors in California. Try to not get emotional about this. A misdemeanor is by legal definition a minor legal charge. I sincerely hope the judge there can find a way to make sure he gets psychiatric help. Because again, I do not believe he has committed any sex act crimes (but would change my mind if he was accused and convicted of same). I seems really knee jerk to assume this guy is guility of crimes he only talks about. Just the facts, maam.

Again, you FOOLISHLY assume he is a predator, but you have no proof. That kind of idiocy is what the DA in Boulder, Fox News, and CNN are guilty of. Deal with FACTS, OK?

It is also that kind of idiocy that the mass media are using to unfairly stereotype Thailand. To them, Thailand is not a country, it is a CARTOON, and as a person who cares about Thailand, I don't appreciate it.

Yes .... obviously the DA in Boulder was stupid for bringing a confessed killer and baby raper <that had been corresponding with an author in Boulder.>

Regular porn is not only LEGAL in Calipornia, it is almost MANDATORY. I think this statment is over stateing your position.

Nah.

Just an attempt at humor. Either a poor attempt or you didn't get it.

Porn is pervasive in the US, as common as tap water. Again, just the facts.

Another fact, if Mr. Karr wasn't thrown into this Jonbenet murder investigation, we wouldn't be talking about his sorry azz, or his minor porn charges, and Thailand would have been spared this completely uncalled for and unjustified attack on her face by mostly American so called "news" organizations.

Yeah, they were stupid.

He didn't really confess.

Apparantly, famous cases attract many false confessors. All DAs know this.

And they tested his DNA in Thailand and it didn't match.

They could have had the Thai's hold him on the running the Cali charges, and gotten a more definitive DNA sample without a peep to the press. And if they had, again, none of this circus would have ever happened.

Thrown in?

Thats fair. He took to it like a duck to water. Clearly the fullfillment of his life's dreams.

Hey heres a good question..Think he will get a very good lawyer and sue the pants off the Law officals and news groups for big $$$$?

I personally don't give a ###### about Mr. Karr. He has his cross to bear but he very soon will likely be a very rich man, this all is a mixed bag for him.

This is a Thailand forum, and I continue to be disgusted by the yellow journalism coverage of Thailand which resulted from this botched murder charge. The man travelled all over the world, but Thailand was "lucky" to have him there at the time they decided to pull this stupid stunt.

I doubt it because he played an acting role in the whole folly.

I think he will concentrate on the movie and book deals. No more teaching for him. Thats probably a benefit.

I don't know what you are trying to prove, but most English speakers understand that when you write I THINK it is an indicator that you are about the state your SUBJECTIVE OPINION.

Thanks for listening.

Are you by any chance a Fox News fan?

I THINK the guy is a predator ... I THINK I said that before .... What I THINK is not a fact! I Think dealing in FACTS precludes making statements using I THINK!

I KNOW that several news sources reported that he had been tried and convicted in absentia from the breaking of this story! I KNOW he was deported from Thailand. I KNOW that the DA in Boulder helped arrange this because he was again working with young girls. I KNOW she would have preferred to wait and get the DNA results first but that exigent circumstances noted above precluded this. I KNOW that people following this story SHOULD have known these things! I KNOW that possessing CHILD PORN is not a minor thing even if it is a misdemeanor! I KNOW this because when convicted this places the person on a national watchlist of registered SEX OFFENDERS. I KNOW I am glad that this cretin is gone from Thailand!

One down, eh?

Anyway, I agree he looked like a predator.

But again, there still is absolutely no evidence that he is actually IS a predator.

He quacks like a duck, sure.

So what, he is not the murderer of the famous murdered child.

He is just another garden variety case.

But now he is very famous and soon to be very rich, national list or not.

And the dark smear campaign against Thailand never needed to happen.

"soon to be very rich" I rather doubt it!

and I am an old American (well in my 40's at least!)

apparently (according to CNN) he could be sentenced to 5 years in prison etc .... not a minor penalty

I wonder whether the John Karr case will have the same effect on Thai governance of foreign language teachers and work permits as a certain Dr. Harold Shipman has had with doctors and GPs in the United Kingdom?

GPs are now no longer able to practise in single-person surgeries, and all doctors now have to undergo annual appraisals of their clinical work. This will be much welcomed, not least by the relatives of these tragic victims of Dr. Shipman.

Both individuals, who sent shockwaves through government systems designed to protect the vulnerable have now led to the creation of or proposed plans to introduce bureaucratic assessments, checks and additional costs to ensure 'protection.'

Is this the price we pay for 'peace of mind' and honesty in both the teaching and medical professions?

I have heard he has signed a book deal but I believe there are laws in place that do not allow criminals to get rich off the takings from their crime. Not sure if that is federal or not, but I do remember reading about it somewhere, that a criminal could not gain financially by selling the rights to their story.

It is not a Federal law to the best of my knowledge. Nor would it apply here unless they determine that he deliberately defrauded the government over his trip back to the USA!

I just think there is enough info out there to NOT pay him for it!

In fact the guy that Karr was writing to MIGHT be in a better position to write this story using Karr's e-mails/letters!

Karr's "deportation" form Thailand was due the USA investigators asking for it. Wheter he wanted a free public ride home or really wanted to escape something. I don't know? Theres no evidence he being charged of anything in Thailand. He claimed to have some sex relations with a student in Thailand? Wonder if he wants to do this same thing in Thailand all over again, and see if he will be convicted. What I seem to remember from thai authorities, if he's not guilty he's welcome back. He could be back in Thailand soon. Even teaching again, who knows?

I personally was talking about the US MEDIA, namely FOX and CNN.

They have been thoroughly embarassed by this rush to judgement and they deserve to be reviled for their shameless folly. These are truly not news outlets, but rather delivers of propoganda and infotainment.

As far as crediting the American media with anything, you have really got to be kidding. This guy will write at least one book or have a ghostwriter write it, and the world will eat it up. I would bet the house that within 2 years this guy will either be filthy rich or dead because I also think he is a serious suicide risk. He badly needs a very good psychiatrist and also probably a wealth management advisor.

Actually it was the media that first began to question Karr's story. Jeff Tubin on CNN raised doubts especially after the Boulder D.A.'s press conference in which she basically said she wasn't sure about the facts in this case.

The Governor of Colorado has called her (the D.A.) on the carpet, saying it's "the most expensive DNA test in Colorado history."

I think she figured Karr's a true pedophile and learned he was about to begin a new teaching job in Bangkok and decided to move on the arrest. I think it was supposed to be done more quietly, but the Thai police saw a chance to enhance their image before the TV cameras and paraded the guy around -- then the media frenzy began.

If the Boulder D.A. saw her function as protecting the children of Thailand, man she's way out of her league and element. The Ramsey case is a true beauty pageant compared to the stuff that goes on here...

In all, another case of cultural disconnect -- she don't understand Thailand and the Thai police don't understand that in the U.S. you actually have to prove the case, and you don't announce the ramblings of a whacko as believable facts.

It does draw important attention back to seriously unresolved issues: Who did in fact kill JonBet, and why are children so easily exploited in Thailand. Both governments have a lot of work to do.

Profit from WHAT crimes?

Maybe like him you are fantasizing that he is indeed the Jonbenet murderer?

Any such law will be irrelevant for him.

Mark my words, he will be rich. Madness is the best career move this guy ever took.

And yes, because of his knowledge, obsession, and FAME related to the case, he is eminently qualified to write such a book (or at least to have his name attached to it). Not to mention the movie(s). Its an industry. If you doubt it, consider that his face was plastered all over cable news for a week now.

BTW: After what the DA in Boulder and the media did to him and the reputation of Thailand, I say to him: GO FOR IT. Living well is the best revenge. Also, as of today, he is legally an innocent man. He certainly did not murder Jonbenet and nobody is saying he murdered anyone else. I agree he will likely serve some time for the old Cali child porn on his computer charges, but again, these are legally minor charges; there is no way he is going to jail for 5 years. 1 year max.

Well media is media and has stopped researching basis on their stories properly a long time ago. Having their interests. Money.

I don't see any mistakes actually here by the thai police force. They just co-operated with foreign agents. And did a good job.

Actually, if you know anything about this issue, you would know that Thailand has made significant progress on this issue. That there are other countries where the problem is much more severe. Does Fox and CNN report that? If Thailand made even more progress, would they report that? Of course not. They report their cartoon stereotypes and cement them in people's minds once more.
