I remember Nero as a simple piece of software to burn pics etc a few yrs ago.

I figured I try an updated trial version, in 48 hrs it proved to be a real P.I.T.A.

Nothing but probs & conflicts. (393MB <deleted>)

Is there a simple, freeware, piece of software out there that I can use to put my pics onto a CD?

That's all!

Thanks :o

I think Nero is like a lot of other software... it tends to want to be able to do more and more as time goes by. Its core function is still strong, but all the added features can take up too much resources. I still use Nero 6, and it's fine for me.

When installing any program, ask yourself whether you need all the extra little bits that come with it, especially the stuff that goes into the system tray. Then ask yourself if you even need the program at all. Don't install anything you don't actually need.

Nero version 3.0.2.0 - 1.8Mb

Nero version 6.6.0.13 - 33Mb

Udon's Nero version 7? - 393Mb

Whole OS's are smaller than this!

True.....When I started to delete it I saw 393MB listed, I could not believe it. :D

with 393mb of soft, you must be joki,' right :o

my Nero premium takes 744mb and without all options related to home player, nero scout and so on, just kept the essential ...

they got you on this dodgy nero :D

francois

ps; I use nero since longtime and never get any problem with it :D

you should try again, and don't get lost most of the things you want to comes in nero express :D

Over the years I have tried many photo software programs etc including Adobe all the stuff that come with the cameras and Nero ..confusing complicated too clever ..then I down loaded the from the Google download site the free Picassa software ...it is great and for a simpleton layman does every effect, correction , CD writing I will ever need so simple and intuative and free ..I have no negative ( excuse the near pun ) comments to make . The most useful feature is print order choose the photos you wish to have printed and ,for the UK choose bonus Print specify size , finish and the delivery address ,set up Credit card payment ( that is now your account with various favourite addresses so the next time it is even easier ).

Send your digital request ,down load the chosen photos, pay, and in my case 3 days later in the UK my Mum had pictures of her Grandson`s first day at school in Thailand , the cost was normal bonus print charges as per UK ..the service is world wide with what appears to be the same in Australia ,USA but I have not tried that service yet .

The CD copy and slide show copy with music from my MP3 collection is simple easy and a few buttons ......Please try it I have introduced it to many ,many friends and business collegues and they now use nothing else including business photo presentions . Please try and give any feed back to the TV site .

Nero filled a void a CD burning in Windows when it first come out, I believe. Now it tries to maintain it's position as an all-in-one tool.

The downside is that it will never be as good as specialised programs and it will always have conflicts here and there and it will be more and more difficult to use. Nero 6 had THREE interfaces - Burning ROM, Express, and Start Smart for the same tasks! Nero 7 dropped one of the interfaces, I believe, but then then there's Nero Image drive - to preview your results before actually burning CDs, and it's nowhere to be found in Nero's menus!

The upside is not really in burning capabilities, but in conversion tools - Nero can covert almost anything to anything else - all audio formats - mp3, wma, ogg, wav, etc. to CD, all video formats - avi, mpeg1, mpeg2 etc to VCD and so on.

The downside it doesn't give you any control of the conversion process. Basic functions for audio CDs are now provided with Windows media player, and you'll need extra tools for anything related to videos, Nero can burn only VCDs with confidence.

The answer is to find a program for your actual needs - picture managing, audio or video conversion tools etc. Burning itself can be done with WinXP just as well.

Other free burning tools - "burnatonce" and "Feurio!"

You might want to look at ProShow for building slide presentation with music etc.

Then you can write the finished item out to a DVD in standard DVD format.

If you have a DVD burner .....

A CD burner will suffice................

Most modern machines have DVD as standard now.

If you buy a DVD burner or a PC with a burner installed it usually comes with basic free software,

which is adequate for the job.

I also had major problems with Nero. It was so bad that I frisbied the disk after I un-installed the program. Then my Sony DVD burner crapped out and the software that came with my new DVD burner was Nero. I went ahead and installed it to see what would happen and found the software to be nothing short of excellent. The software is version 6.6 and takes up 83 MB so not that big.
