Hi,

I have a few urgent questions I'm hoping someone can help me with.

I am a thai citizen living in the US with a green card. my passport is about to expire at the end of october, 2006. I have the 2001 passport. I need to travel to thailand in middle october for around a week or two. Would I need to go to consulate in person? and/or what options do I have available? If i do need to go to the consulate would I need to make appointment? How much time would i need there? etc. I've tried calling the consulate, leaving messages, and sending them email but so far no response.

Thanks in advance.

You have three options.

1. Extend your passport in the US at the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate. Extensions will only be valid up to 2010 only.

2. Renew your passport (i.e. get a new e-passport) in person at one of the passport offices in Thailand. It should not take more than 3 working days at the Head Office.

3. Renew your passport in person in the US at the Royal Thai Embassy, or if possible, Consulate. However, this may take up to six weeks.

I'm thinking of doing #1 and #3 together. Would that be possible? I already have a flight to DC booked and ready. I fly in on thurs morning and leave fri afternoon. How much time do i need there? and do i need to make appt?

They are two different options.

1. Extensions involve stamping your old passport and extending its validity up to 2010. Extensions of non-biometric passports are only possible outside of Thailand. This should be relatively quick and possible by post.

3. Renewing involves getting a new epassport, valid for 5 years. This has to be in person as fingerprint and photo are taken on site. It takes longer because your data is sent back to Thailand and the passport is printed in Thailand.
