I pay about 30K bht per month for a mid sized car and the extra insurance from Avis. I rent it from the US using my US Visa card. The reason is that I have consumer protections in the US which would apply. It might cost more but Avis is international doing business in the US and I won't get scammed.

I have mixed feelings about driving but I really didn't have any problems. I wandered all over Isaan because I wanted to see more of it and I really enjoyed it. I did have two friends to visit.

If you're adventurous by nature you'd probably like the convenience of a car.
