I know its been covered before but is there any advantage at all if your married to a Thai and

have choice between dependents visa and retirement visa. From reading posts i cant see any

except maybe if you want to work but im not sure of that. Amyway ive been coming here for

15 years and lived here for last 5+ years. I used to get 1 year reentry visas abroad no problem 3 in a row because I had to go back for business. At least i say no problem because they had a copy

of my bank account with 2mill + baht and copy of my condo ownership papers - so they always said no problem you have plenty (lady at consolute got to know me and joked marry me). So 3 years ago as i spent more and more time here it got a bit tiresome to have to leave every 90 days so I changed to a retirement visa even tohugh properly and legally married to a thai lady (not just tribal or budhist marriage). No probems at all again maybe because I have plenty of funds and maybe just lucky. Ive renewed this twice (no problem) and even asked immigaration officer at last renewal is it better for me to go for dependent wife visa - she said why you have no problem with 800K etc and we have to check etc

So for someone in my position where to be honest i normally transfer at least 1.5 mill baht a year, yes we live well but school fees, doctors bills, 2 cars, 2 homes etc eats into money even here

??? is there any advantage in non retirement visa, I used to think it should be better being happily married for 5+ years with a child here but reading posts in TV it just seems much more hazzle

So why do people go for dependent visa if they have no problem with 800K bit

The advantage of support Thai wife would be ability to obtain a work permit, lower amount of money involved, and if PR was a goal a better chance (almost impossible without a work history). I guess if you had one of the contagious disease not having medical would also count.

Retirement is much easier for immigration (no under review committee/proof) and for those applicants that have the money. One short visit, alone, and you are set for the year.

is it impossible to get a work permit once you have been here on a retirement visa ?

if a retirement visa was changed to a marriage visa , is it then possible to get a work permit?

Thought so

Just checking - so I dont want to work have plenty of dosh for money requirement and plenty of income and assets dont see that changing PR would be nice but I dont think id even have a chance in hel_l for that

So nop advantage at all for me - correct ??

Thanks for replies as I said just double checking
