PHUKET: The body of a male was found floating in a ditch in Thalang this morning. The man had been drinking with friends prior to his death.

At 08:15am Thalang investigator, Lt Col Sanitch Nookong, was called to investigate the body of a man which had been found floating in a ditch near a catfish farm behind Wat Baan Don in Srisoonthon.

Police arrived at the scene with Kusoldharm rescue workers and were led to a shack which is surrounded by a ditch.

The shack is located close to the Hao Chang Fish Pond restaurant and there is a small wooden bridge which crosses the ditch from the restaurant to the shack.

The body of the victim, named as Tey, 35, from Narathiwat, was found floating face down in the ditch under the wooden bridge. There was machette stuck in the ground nearby.

When rescue workers recovered the body it was noticed that Mr Tey had a slash wound about 2 inches long on his right cheek.

Police questioned Seksan Ganjan, 25, Pratai Jongkrataok, 33, and Yok Meaungdang, 46, the three friends Mr Tey had been drinking with, and they told police that they only knew the victim by his nickname.

They told police that Mr Tey was a welder and that they regularly drank with him at the shack by the fish pond.

On Wednesday (March 18) they were drinking together until 11pm one of Mr Tey̕s friends told police.

“We got drunk and went to sleep. Tey left the shack but nobody knew where he had gone.

“We woke up this morning, got ready to go to work and found Tey floating in the dicth so we called the police,” said Mr Tey̕s friend.

Police took statements from all three of Mr Tey̕s friends and have also collected evidence including finger prints from the machette.

Police currently believe that Mr Tey got drunk and fell into the pond whilst crossing the bridge. However, they have not ruled out murder as a possible cause of death.

Mr Tey̕s body has ben taken to Thalang hospital and police are currently trying to contact Mr Tey̕s relatives.

To be a little pedantic, one cannot float in a ditch.

It's only when the ditch is water filled one can float in it.

And then it isn't a ditch any more but, if it is around a 'shack', it is rather grandly called a 'moat'.

Friday grumpiness is always a delight.

A man has died under mysterious circumstances. Float, ditch, shack, moat are of little consequence to this reader.

RIP.

Strange circumstances, Thai national ( one presumes) no comments. A foreign national umpteen posts concerning the matter.

Out drinking with mates, then they ditched him. Case closed

A Thai? Not another white immigrant or visitir who drank himself to alcohol induced death/accident/suicide? Unusual.
