Fish/aquarium shops on the Bright Side?

For the last three years I've been using the fish shop on Third Road. Coming from Bali Hai it's on the right hand side about 100 yards before the Soi 17/Soi Regional Land traffic lights. Helpful and honest staff and everything you need for a fish pond or aquarium. Now I see that entire row of shops has been demolished, presumably making way for the next condo project.

So I need to find another fish/aquarium shop to get provisions for my finned friends. I know there's one halfway down Thepprasit but when they tried to charge me 360 Baht for a 240 Baht bag of koi carp food I decided that their business ethics were questionable and they didn't deserve my custom. I know there's a good place out on Soi Siam Country Club but that's a ridiculous distance to go just to get some fish food. Can anybody point me to a fish/aquarium shop on the Bright Side of Sukhumvit, preferably somewhere between Central Pattaya Road and Soi Wat Bun, i.e. on the south side of the city. I'm sure there must be a few around but I've never looked for one before as the one that's been demolished was very close to my house.

Thanks for any help.

Also 1 along pattaya klang i seen on the left walking/driving from sukhumvit between big c and tops.

Thanks. Third Road is a long, busy road so can you explain where exactly the shop is located? When I'm driving along it I keep my eyes on the traffic and don't usually have time to search for shops.

There is one here on 3rd Rd and Soi 12, so on your left when you go South from Central Road:

No idea if they have big bags ??

Thanks, I think that's just before the turning off Third Road into Soi Bongkot isn't it? I should know that area, at least, as I almost bought a house there.

I found that one yesterday, by Soi 12 as you said, the street I was thinking of is Soi 18. It's a very small shop and they hardly had any koi carp food at all. What there was, just four small bags, was a specialist version, my koi are happy with the ordinary Tenryu food.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

For Koi Carp check out the weekend day market in front of Mini Siam (trees and flowers mainly) but has several specialized Koi dealers on it most of the time. The sit a bit in the back.

For saltwater aquarium and any kind of help contact http://www.aquaticaservices.com/ they don't have a shophouse and work online but Email them and they will find you whatever they need. They specialize in saltwater but can sure deliver anything specific fresh water your looking for.

Thanks but I'm really looking for somewhere easily accessible from the Thepprasit/South Pattaya area. Going all the way up to Mini Siam and back just for a bag of koi carp food is a bit far for me.

A good idea about trying a market though. I gather that there are pet vendors at the Tuesday/Friday Soi Buakao market. Does anybody know if they sell fish food?

Small food for small fishes only from what I remember.

For big fishes (Kois) a temporary solution could be Lotus on Sukhumvit

who sell some 6-8 kg bags in the 800-1200 baht range.

Good idea thanks. Not sure why but I hadn't thought of Tesco Lotus but it does indeed keep a reasonable stock of pet supplies. I was there yesterday, pity I didn't look then.

There are 2 on theppraist road. The one near sukumvit road is the new one and expensive. The other one half way down is ok.

The one half way down is the one I mentioned in my OP. It's not much of a fish shop anyway now as a few years ago they converted most of the shop's area into a furniture salesroom. Where is the one you mention near Suk? Is it on the north or south side and roughly where, say, in relation to the night market?

Its across fron the night market. Its pretty flash. Has some tanks out the front. About 500mtrs down from sukumvit on the non tesco side.

Cheers. I'm just heading off to Makro so I'll be heading down Thepprasit to Suk and I'll stop by on the way and check it out.

Yes, it's a nice shop. Some beautiful tanks with fishes inside.

But as you said, very expensive compared to other older places.

If you let us know what brand your looking for and what size we can deliver at your doorstep.

a picture of the actual bag might help as several brands have several different size of pellets etc...

OK, problem solved for the moment, thanks to all for your help.

I seem to have some sort of a blind spot for shops in Thailand, unless they are the size of Big C or Tesco Lotus, since I drove as slowly as I reasonably could looking for the new fish shop opposite the night market on Thepprasit yesterday but I missed it completely. I'll have to take a walk up there and look for it one of these days.

Anyway, on my way for a beer in Jomtien later on I stopped off at the shop halfway down Thepprasit that I mentioned in the OP. It's three years since I last visited this place and it seems to be under new management. Most of the furniture they were selling has disappeared and the space converted back to piscine paraphernalia. They had big 7 kg bags of the Tenryu food that my carp are used to and the price was reasonable. The same thing for food for the plah hang nok yung. I just hope they stay well stocked like this as it's a very convenient location for me. They've also got new filter units there and I need a new one as my gardeners cracked the joint where the overflow pipe comes out so it leaks. I'll see if they can get someone to come and replace it for me. Only downside was that the people running this shop now don't seem to speak much English.

This is a branch from the big shop on Siam Country road, their prices are a bit high.

I had talked to the fish shop on 3rd road before they move, and they said they would move to theprasit soi 11, I have not been there yet, you may want to check them out. I buy all my fish food from Tesco, cheap and good, and genuine.

Thanks for the information. I was wondering if they'd simply move elsewhere as they had a good business on Third Road.
