OP, you don't say how much programming experience you have. If it's substantial, I'm surprised you're after a course. I'd say RTFM.

And if you don't have substantial experience my impression is that Ruby on Rails is not a good place to start. It requires a very diverse skill set: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, Ruby, design patterns, database management, webserver management.

I would say codeacedemy.com would be your best bet.

Would also suggest PHP to start, wider community to help you on your way and the building block of majority of opensource web platforms - worpress, joomla, prestashop, magento - huge proportion of current websites in those 4.

If you can already program any web languages, find an online tutorial, do hello world and then experiment on a few test projects.

I've done a ton of Codeacademy tutorials. I've finished the HTML and JavaScript ones. I was pretty proficient in HTML 4.1.

I just feel like if I do it in person I am way more disciplined.
