Russian PM Medvedev set to visit next month
THE NATION

BANGKOK: -- RUSSIAN Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev will pay an official visit to Thailand on April 7-8, as part of a trip to Southeast Asia.

According to Ambassador Kirill Barsky, the trip aims to boost ties and cooperation in investment, energy, counter-narcotics work, culture and tourism.

"This occasion will be the prologue of the 120th anniversary of Thai-Russia friendship, which will take place in 2017," the ambassador said.

Medvedev's trip will be the first official visit by a Russian PM to the Kingdom in 25 years. The last such visit was when premier Nikolai Ryzhkov visited Thailand in 1990.

The two countries established their relationship formally in 1897 when the revered King Chulalongkorn visited the Russian empire. Since then, the two countries have enjoyed a longstanding friendship that spans almost 120 years, which will be celebrated in two years time.

Thailand exports rice, cars and spare parts, radio receivers, televisions and TV components, plus canned and processed fruits to Russia, while importing goods such as iron, steel and crude oil from Russia.

According to the Department of Trade Negotiation at the Ministry of Commerce, Russia and Thailand enjoy trade valued at around Bt4,300 billion between 2009 and 2013. Two-way trade reached Bt4,900 billion (US$150 billion) last year.

Thailand should be careful when dealing with this man, there are so many Russians living in certain areas of Thailand they might decide to secede and seek to be part of Russia. That seems to be happening a lot lately.

I bet that America must be feeling a little bit left out in the cold as everyone is deserting them for China, Japan and god forbid, even Russia now. Even all of the important countries in Europe are joining the Asian fund which is a big blow for the impotent IMF that they have the major say in and keeps their currency as the 'reserve' currency of the world (for how much longer one may ask)?

Can't say that they don't deserve it as they have tried to boss the rest of the world for too long now and they are getting their comeuppance as people have decided that they are not as important as they think they are and are a fading super power on the wane!!

Time to wake up:

Soviet, Eastern Block, East Germany, Nazi Death camps don't exist anymore (unless you call Guantanamo that way).

North Korea is doing economic changes and has good grow which soon will lead to political changes.

Cuba: well they weren't a too bad place to live in compare to all the similar countries....excellent medical care for everyone.....

So it isn't the 1970s anymore, the world is changing.....

You've obviously studied this issue in great depth and your final analysis and message to America is:

With the EC economy in shambles, it's the American economy that keeps them on top. China's economy is now showing weakness and Russia is still a basket case. Thailand will soon realize that its economic growth will depend on US investment and markets. When the numbers roll in next year, Prayuth will be changing his tune.
