This may, or may not be the right forum, but it is on the topic of flooding. I am moving to Chiang Mai next week, and will eventually be buying my own house. Question is, are there any areas that new housing is going up that should be avoided due to flooding issues ?

stay away clear from canals and the river and you should be fine.
