My Oz neighbour told me today that 3 months statements showing 40k in the bank are the latest hoop to be jumped through. His Consul told him 'New Rule'. Along with all the other New Roolz. Chock dee.

I think you mean 400k. Not exactly a new rule.

No, I mean, you must either show 400k OR 40k per month in the form of past three months statements, much like the Retirement 800k OR 65k per month. This requirement on Phuket is, according to my neighbour's consul, NEW.

It doesn't affect me personally but my neighbour did say this was new. Maybe he's confused. He's old. And Australian.

400,000 baht seasoned for 2 months is the official guideline, not 3 months.

But since the OP talks about a consul, who issues visas and not extension of stay the question is who said what. Was it a consul regarding visas or an immigration officer regarding extensions of stay and which office or consulate.

Ah well, an Aged Aussie, that explains it but given those two points, WHY would you take his word for anything?

BS !

Why spread this nonsense around ?

I renewed my extension in Phuket last month with an "Income letter " from my Embassy . No need for bank statements !

Seems "elderly" Aussies are in need of a chaperon!

Hardly a day goes by without someone posting alerts about "new rules," the majority of which are either not new and/or not rules.

Usually these alerts contain confused jargon and talk about visas that are actually extensions or extensions that are actually 90 day reports or renewing a visa or obtaining a 30 day visas on arrival (neither of which is possible) or whatever, which indicate that the person raising the alarm is totally at sea.

Failure to understand a situation does not constitute a change in the rules.

The hearsay story of what an unnamed consul at an unnamed consulate in an unnamed country allegedly said is wrong. End of discussion. Topic closed.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place. — George Bernard Shaw
