Non-immigrant B for spouse

Featured Replies

Hello,

If I'm already here on a non-immigrant B and want my spouse to be on it too - how do I go about it? I'm asking for a friend; when I came before with my partner we started the process altogether. If you come first and your partner then comes (on a tourist visa or visa exemption), do they have to apply for a non-immigration B visa outside of Thailand to start the process? What sort of documentation is needed?

Thanks.

The question is if your wife has a job in Thailand or not and do you have a non-B vis and leave the country every 90 days or are you on a 1 year extension of stay.

If she is not working, she will apply for a non-O visa as your dependent. What she needs is a letter from your company (confirming you work for them and she will be joining you in Thailand, asking for a visa for that reason) and a copy of your passport with 1 year extension of stay. Based on that she will get a non-O visa and then later can get 1 year extension of stay from immigration, matching yours.

So all dependent visas are non-Os? I'm asking because whenever we do the extension, my partner and child are always processed with me in the non-B area, rather than having to do it separately in the non-O area.

The person I'm asking for is on a 1-year extension and his partner is already in Thailand - so just go to Chaeng Wattana with the documents?

Dependents are always classified as non-O instead of non-B. Of course it is the embassy/consulate that issues the visa and sometimes they give an incorrect class. She simply applies for a non-immigrant visa and states her reason for that, the embassy than gives the appropriete visa class.

I don't think immigration divides their areas by visa class. They do it by the type of extension you are applying for. For example those based upon working or retirement or marriage or education and etc.

They probably process you dependents extensions in the same area as yours because they are tied to your extension.

Dependents always get non-o visas because that is what they qualify for when applying for the visa at an embassy or consulate . They would not qualify for a non-b visa.

So let me get this straight - the spouse has to leave Thailand then to change their status?

They will have to go out to a nearby embassy or consulate to get a single entry non-o visa in order to apply for the dependent extension.

Immigration does not do a conversion to a non immigrant visa for dependent extensions.
